My XFX GeForce 8600GT "XXX Edition" Review.......2007-12-21
I was in a bind with the age (almost 3 years old) and brand (Dell4700) of my computer. I was in need of something to handle playing Unreal 3, and that would fit inside my case. The nVidia web site stated that this card could run on a 300 watt power supply, so I bought it. All and all very impressed with the level of quality that I can achieve now with my games. (Elder Scrolls IV, Doom 3, Unreal 3, Battlefield 2, and Company of Heroes). Within a week my power supply burned out and had to be replaced. ($100)Now it is a great card, which supports DirectX v10 and Shader Model v4.0. My only concern now is the temperature. When not under a load the temperature runs about 155F, but under heavy load runs around 198F to 200F. I have added a fan just to be safe.

Running it on a Dell 9150. Overclocks like a champ(memory over 900). Plays COD4 at 1080P with excellent graphics on Vista. The only gripe is it is a little loud, but my prior card was passive cooled and doesn't compare in performance.

I can play Bioshock, Halo 2, Orange Box at the highest definitions with no problems. I just wish the card wasn't as loud.

get this one! don't bother with the 8800 at twice the price. i am running two digital Dell 20-inch 24-bit monitors flawlessly. note: i am NOT a gamer, so i can't comment on their ability to display gaming video. i do however push them with digital video editing, 3D graphic modeling and large graphic editing, and 256MB seems to be more than adequate running at 1600x1200 32-bit. also, this card was properly recognized by Vista Ultimate and the drivers seem solid. buy it!

My main focus was to build a work station and gaming was not factored into the equation. The two requirements were PCI-Express and somewhat cheap.
I went to the Giant Electronics Chains and actually purchased a PNY GeForce 7600GS for about $160.
I got home and realized i spent too much money on an inferior spec'd product.
I found the XFX GeForce 8600GT XXX edition for cheaper.
The card has been solid. I have a 20 inch flat screen that looked horrible plugged into my old VGA style and now it's crisp on the DVI.
If someone can find a "better" dual monitor PCI-E card for this price then grab it.
