I record music in Logic on a Mac. When I was looking for a firewire audio interface, I saw this in my local store but passed because I was told by other musicians that I should get a Presonus unit -- which cost quite a bit more.

Thinking you get what you pay for, I bought the Presonus unit and as soon as I plugged it in, I had nothing but static and a weird whining sound. I traded the unit in for ANOTHER Presonus and had the exact same problem. So then I decided go with a less expensive, Behringer unit.

That unit worked okay, but I couldn't get much gain from my microphones.

So the other day, I went back to my local store and picked up the HarmonyAudio unit. The unit, which was less expensive than either the Behringer or the Presonus, works better than both.

When I first hooked up, I was getting very little sound from my dynamic microphones, even with the gain turned all the way up. But then I hooked it up to a small Behringer mixer, plugged it into the HarmonyAudio unit and WOW. Wonderful sound. Clean and clear with SOME hiss from the preamps (on both the Harmony and the mixer), but I was able to play with the levels until I got excellent audio from the mics.

I give this unit a four, because I wasn't able to connect a mic directly, but that doesn't matter much to me because I normally record through a mixer anyway.

This, of course, is my own personal experience with these products. Hardware, software, wiring and a bunch of different variables my give you a different experience (I know people who love both the Presonus and Behringer units).

Huge improvement over onboard card.......2007-11-14

It offers 8 channels (4 stereo channels) of output that sound MUCH better than the card built in to my MacBook Pro. I have used it with Core Audio (Quicktime, VLC, etc.), Garage Band, and Logic Pro with input and output and it works great. I currently use it to drive my 5.1 surround system (along with an external amplifier). I would highly recommend this product to anyone with a mac wanting an economical, quality improvement to the stock sound card.

This HA02 is really nice. i love it. with firewire connection, you dont need any power adapter as long as your firewire input is a powered one. All you gotta do is hook up and set your settings in preferences and you are ready to GO. just like that. really easy unit. plug and play for OSX Tiger with Dual Core 2 Intel processor on an iMac 2.33 MgHz. I love this thing, and the best part is that i got it for only $35.99 used but in NEW condition right here on Amazon. wow, i almost bought it a year ago here for $300. Im glad i waited. what a deal. I cant believe how low they are going for brand new now. that is amazing. this device works and does a great job. its simple and requires no drivers if you are using OSX 10.3.5 or later. Highly recommended!!! Miglia is for real!!
Im using it right now with Garageband 3 and my guitar and have zero latency as far as i can tell. NICE!! :-))
