Not from Japan.......2007-11-10

I believe this is the same battery I ordered - when I went back to Amazon to check, the battery selection was changed and it temporarily was removed. Looks like it's back now. I would normally go with the same name brand battery as the original just to be on the safe side of quality (assuming an authentic product). However, since this was only to be used as a just-in-case backup, I decided to go with a lower-priced, third party product, one that was at least made in Japan - or "from Japan" - as the description states. The big surprise was that when I received it, the packaging said "MADE IN CHINA." I selected this battery because of the Japan reference. Additionally, the product description stated 1700mAh, but the packaging says it's 1600mAh. It said that it's an Accessory Power, Professional Series product. What seemed a bit odd was that the packaging had suspicious hyped-up remarks like "Now with Golden Contact Tips, "California Silicon Valley Technology," "Manufactured with European Quality." To be fair, it does say, "Accessory Power products are available from professional camera dealers" and it has a three year warranty. I haven't seen this brand listed anywhere, however. I know that real gold plated contacts are a good thing, but what are "golden" contact tips??

I've only used this battery briefly and it seems to work, and it seems to charge properly. But I have not used it yet through a full discharge/recharge cycle, so I can't compare it to the original Pentax battery. Again, what really bothered me was that I thought I was buying a product which was made in Japan, as the description seems to indicate. I specifically wanted to avoid a battery made in China - but that's what I got.
