As the entry-level model of the BenQ/BMW DesignWorks line, the x700 is a wired keyboard with X-Structure Key Technology. It features 13 Internet "hot" key buttons, enhanced function keys, as well as a WideTrack scroll wheel built-into the keyboard. The x700 comes with a detachable keyboard frame and adjusts from 6-12 degrees for a personalized, comfortable fit.

The keys feel great, nice layout, standard except for the grouping of F-keys in 3's and not 4's.

Problems:

1. The F keys have secondary functions, selectable with an F-Lock button. However, it appears that standard key codes are not sent for the F keys, making them unuable in games. I contacted BenQ support and they blame the game makers. I can't be sure but I believe that the software drivers intercept the keys and translate into the OS, and this doesn't happen within DirectX. I imagine this will be a problem in non Windows O/S as well.

2. When taken out of the base, the keyboard is not stable on the desk top. You'll basically have to use the keyboard in its base, despite what the specs say.

3. The software is a little odd, when I use the media keys, it always brings media player to the foreground, quite annoying when you're working.

I think #1 is a show-stopper, and frankly I find it amazing that BenQ would make excuses about it and not take an interest in addressing the issue. Typical customer non-support these days.
