Great value, in all respects !.......2007-03-15
This is my third week with this fine camera,and i must say Pentax has nailed this one in terms of price,the quality and time that has gone in the K10D.I have a eye for details and the K10D built quality is superb.The camera though a bit heavy is very forgiving once you hold it in your hand,with the grip attached its a match made, and a must if you purchase this camera.This camera is for the person who loves to take photos,and once you get to know this baby,she purrs like a cat.The weather seals,buttons and levers are of high quality, not like some other/s that have fallen of where quality is concerned.
The shake reduction works very well, so one can stay in the 100-800 ISO range and get those low light shots with ease, 1/6 @ 300mm are nailed with a steady hand quite easily, on par with my canon S3IS,that i find difficult to take up now because of the leap in image quality, and ease of use over the S3.
JPEGs out of the camera are sharp,once you move from the default settings that are more film like,but nice if you like that look, which i do.Colors are very accurate from 100-1600 ISO, noise is well handled up to ISO 600,beyond that the noise is more grain like, with good retention of details,for me is a plus,the competition NR kicks in too early and removes some details.This is a camera that rewards well, when used within its limits,don't liked to be pushed into too much into under exposure.The metering is excellent,good dynamic range,battery life once batteries have been conditioned is good for such a feature rich camera.The camera has some Pentax exclusive modes that are very useful,a very flexible camera to work with.Pentax lenses are amongst the best, the DA16-45mm is very sharp,hardly need a prime lens,so is the DA50-200mm no C.A.or P.F.excellent lenses for starters.
Faults none yet, and at this price with an excellent feature set Pentax has priced this camera not to make money,but to draw people away from the big C & N,with a big HELLO! any thing you can do i can do it too,as better,even better and for less money,for how long it's up to Pentax as the K10D is their path to glory, if they want it.

This camera is as good as it gets - 5 stars. However, buyer beware this seller's battery is not a Pentax D-LI50, but a cheap chinese substitute.
Pentax K10D.......2007-03-23
When I first received the camera I was impressed, but then I found out there were some problems with the firmware. There had been two updates to fix bugs found. My camera came with none of the updates which means I purhased a brand new camera that was defective when I bought it. The worst part is that I found out by accident on the internet searching for an accessory for the camera. I bought a new camera camera that was defective when I bought it and was not told. I don't know whether to blame Cameta Camera or Pentax. Other than that I guess the camera is O.K. The green buttons on the camera and on the grip are a little dinky and the menu button has to be pushed a little hard to make it engage.

Still playing around with it and getting to know it.
So far I can tell you that it feels really good; robust and high-quality feeling.
The controls are really intuitive and easy to use. The additional grip gives me a better grip of the camera (big hands), but it has small well thought compartments where one can store extra memory cards and the remote.

Outstanding DSLR.......2007-02-19
I have been into photography for 25yrs. Back when match needle 35mm cameras were cutting edge. I have owned Nikon cameras in the past so this is not only my first Pentax but also my first DSLR as well. I looked at the Nikon D200 before I made the decision to purchase my K10D. It was not about the money but the ease of use, the camera shake stabilization system, the self cleaning sensor and how it felt in my hand. One other item that is worth mentioning is how the K10D is sealed to protect it from dust and moisture. If you plan on outdoors activities this just migth keep you from having an expensive repair on you hands. The operation and controls are layed out in such a way that with in a very short amount of time they became second nature. The menu for the camera "Software" settings is very well organize and like the controls became intuitive. The quaility of the photographs is turely amazing. Sharp and clear. Color reproduction super. With that said, this is the best camera that I have ever owned and would recommend it to any serious amature or professional.
