NOT what I thought I was buying.......2007-05-09
I was very happy with my 2 Gb Sandisk, and thought I was just buying a bigger version of the same. Wrong. I was apparently buying a U3 operating system. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, except that on my work PC ( A two year old Dell Optiplex GX280 Pentium 4 with XP) the drive just flashes, gets very hot, and locks up my system. I have to powerfail the PC to get it back. It works fine (although slowly) on the other PCs I have tried it with. It maps as a drive AND as a CD in order to run the autostart (I don't pretend to understand why), and this can take an excessive amount of time. Oh, the demo and U3 control panel don't autostart with Vista. Wouldn't have bought it if I had known all of this. This drive is an overworked and underthought solution to a problem I didn't have to begin with. Going back to using my 2 Gb.
U3 Security is Worth the Price of Admission.......2006-11-03
I liked my 2gb Sandisk so much that I bought a 4gb and gave the 2gb to my wife. I have had no problems with either drive on any computer. There were so many gripes about the U3 capability that I went cheap ($40) on the 2gb at a place that I knew would take it back if I hated it.
I like U3 because of the ease of securing my data. There is no convenient way to secure a non-U3 drive that I could find. As a professional presenter, I move around every day but I was scared to death of losing my password list, address book, textbooks, and other sensitive files so I left them at home.
With U3, I am automatically secure. Security is the real reason I want and will keep using U3. I could duplicate the menu easily using PStart or some other menu program.
Some complain that the Sandisk feels cheap. That's because it is. I bought my 4gb U3 at Office Max for $79 without the hassle of a rebate or coupon. I fully intend to lose it or wear it out in a short time and I will buy another cheap one. It may not be a Sandisk but it absolutely will be U3 capable.
I like being secure and bought it because of the security feature. Since purchase, I have become fond of having U3 versions of Thunderbird, Firefox, PStart, Essential PIM and DmailerSync one click away.

People should really research a product before attempting to buy or even bashing it..........2006-07-15
You know, I don't know what all the griping is about! This is a ground breaking technology that is still in its infancy. I just got mine, installed it, the Flash animation guides you through every single step, it's almost patronizing. Someone wrote that the extra drive was confusing him/her, that they couldn't tell where their files were. Please! Get a grip, after 30 seconds of this painfully detailed interactive tutorial I knew exactly how to find my files and where. Another issue poeple were having was the software installing itself. Are you kidding me?! The only thing I'm mad about is that I'll probably won't be able to use this software because I'm a graphics professional and there isn't any code written for Photoshop, After Effects and the like. And if you feel insulted by this review, then maybe that was the point! As someone else said, "U Nubeees!"
Fantastic and useful product!.......2006-06-21
I just can't agree with the other reviewers... If you do not want U3 compatibility, then just buy the non U3 version, it is even cheaper...
It does take longer to load after insertion, but the benefit is greater than the wait. You CAN delete the included programs. Make sure to update the U3 to the latest version.
PRO: Great size, useful U3 system with great free programs like RoboFormToGo, very easy to use launch pad, very easy and simple to administer, great security feature (you can configure it so it requires a password to us the drive), big easy to see activity light. Great storage size.
CONS: There is no cover for the tip, so the connector is exposed to dust when in your pocket, no detachable key option (when you have many keys and you use the Cruzer, the weight of your keys can damage it, so if it had a detachable clasp, it would solve the issue)
I'm returning mine.......2006-05-11
I just received my SanDisk Cruzer Micro with U3 today, and it's going right back where it came from. If you don't use THEIR software's eject, you get an error message the next time you insert the USB key. This wouldn't be a problem, except that their software is sensitive to certain settings that I have, and _disappears_ from my screen before I can click on the Eject button. Hardware should not be settings-dependent. Also, if the USB connector is retractable, there should be a flap to prevent dust from gathering inside.

Wish I could give it a zero.......2007-09-08
I have had two Sandisk Cruzer 4GB drives stop working. After the first one died, I was scrupulous about using Windows "stop/ safe eject" process, thinking I had caused the problem. But two giving out within a year can't be the result of the way I'm handling the drive. Both times, it stopped being recognized by Windows, or I got an error message saying the drive must be formatted, but it wouldn't install so that I could run it or format it. Avoid this one like the plague, and don't store anything on it that isn't backed up.
Can't go wrong with Sandisk.......2007-03-31
Excellent product, no problems. FYI, Macintosh users, the U3 is not for us and is an irritant as it shows up regardless and there does not appear to be a way to get rid of it. For that I give it 2 stars. Otherwise, it's A-OK.
I have had 2 of these die.......2007-01-08
the drives just sop working after a while. I have lost critical data twice with ths product. Avoid.
I love this drive -4GB for a great price.......2006-12-23
I love this microdrive. I have had at least 5 different sizes (and models) in the past and this is my favorite one.
SIZE: This is the biggest usb drive I have ever purchased. I was initially looking for a 1GB drive, but then I saw the price on this one. Wow, not bad at all. (I know that there is also an 8GB drive out there, but I think the price on that one is still realistically prohibitive). For 4GB, the price on this one is really good.
For reference to the size, realize that this drive is actually the same size as the regular iPod Nano. This means that there is finally a microdrive that can hold a lot of media. You can finally drag and drop entire playlists of songs, or tv shows, or movies on to this drive to take elsewhere. This was really nice when I wanted to bring over some iTunes TV shows to my friend's house, as this drive allowed me to port over a bunch without worrying about burning them onto CDs. (If I had tried that method, I would have needed 6 CDS, or more, so this drive was a great help.)
PRICE: The price is very, very, good. I know that it isn't sold directly from Amazon (so you pay shipping), but I had no problems with the third party vendor.
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES: I really like the fact that there is no cap to lose. It is a very interesting design. You have a little thumb button, and if you press it in, and slide it away from the drive, the usb head pops out and locks in place. (When done, you slide the head back into the body of the drive).
Note: I have used this drive with both a mac (OS X) and a pc (Windows XP) and have had no problems with either. I have not timed the data throughput, as I dragged and dropped things onto the drive and then walked away, but I did not notice any unseemly delays with reading and writing to the drive.
I have no complaints with this drive so far. Assuming it lasts, there are only two things that I am concerned about.
First, the end of the drive is open (though the usb end is tucked away inside), so if you are going to carry it somewhere where it might get a LOT of dust, or any wetness, then you might opt for another drive (with a cap) to be safe.
Second, it IS possible that it may not last as long as a (normal) drive (with a cap) because of the movement that takes place every time you open and close it, but only time will tell. Also, if you drop it, I am betting it will rattle around (due to the movable parts) so it may be less durable than other drives if dropped again and again.
Very satisfied so far, and I think it makes a nice gift for less technologically oriented family members. (No more CDS to burn -just drag and drop!)
Good product.......2006-11-26
This drive has proven to be fast and the U3 software useful. I wish the case were a little more substantial, but the performance is good. I was able to write data at about 6 or 7 MB/sec and read it at over 20 MB/sec (Sorry I am not more exact, but this was timed using my watch).
