Customer Reviews:
Better than expected for iPhone.......2007-12-26
This is a well thought out product that works better than I expected. I got this for use in a Nissan Frontier and Mazda protégé with my iPhone. I have had poor luck with FM transmitters, and I live in the Philadelphia area where I thought I would have trouble finding an open frequency; but I've been pleasantly surprised.
I would just like to add to J. Guentert's review, which I agree with, and is the only other one I saw regarding the iPhone.
I drove from Princeton to Philadelphia using the same frequency (94.9) and didn't have an issue. (104.1 also seems clear here) I felt the sound quality and volume were on par with FM- fine for my current needs. No huge change in volume when switching to another station.
I think it's great- and important-that you can choose any frequency from 88.1 to 107.9. The other product I tried had about 5 choices which was unsat for my area.
Signal strength seems fine, but I wouldn't expect it to drown out actual radio stations. The antenna on my Mazda is back by the hatch, and the one in the frontier is on the passenger side hood. Sound quality is fine for either, which I did not expect.
I didn't need to use the extension arm for either car, but it actual seems to fit more naturally in the Mazda and does not interfere with any controls. The frontier is OK, but the outlet is high up on the dash, and the iPhone screen is so bright, that I wonder how it will affect my driving at night (assuming I leave the screen turned on)
The iPhone fits in great and is held in place firmly (using the fit pad). When driving at highway speed there is noticeable vibration in the screen due to the length of the arm, but the connection to the lighter socket seems solid. I read other reviews which mentioned the connector did not fit their cigarette lighter. I did not have this issue for either car, but it did come with a ring to make the jack fit a larger size port.
This dock is pretty pricy, and all of the FM transmitters I looked at have pretty varied reviews, so I did consider just getting a new aftermarket radio for the truck with an AUX jack (it already has an aftermarket radio) which could be had for a pretty similar price these days- but chose to gamble on this instead for several reasons- 1. Transferable to other cars (we have 2, plus I have rental cars often on business). 2. It cradles the phone very well, so it's not taking up space in one of my cup-holders 3. It charges the phone without unsightly wires 4. It has a line out jack for if and when I do get a radio with an AUX jack- that was the real clincher- I'll still have a dock/charger even if I upgrade to a more compatible car stereo.
Hope this was helpful. This is a great iPhone accessory in my opinion.
High-quality product.......2007-12-17
I purchased this to use in a 2006 Honda Civic with an iPhone, and it fits/works great! The device has a very tight fit into the cigarette lighter, which it needs to, because that is the only support. It has an arm that extends out maybe 4 inches from the lighter, and adjust in any direction with ratcheting joints that can be clamped down with thumbscrews once in the proper position. It also comes with an extension arm, which if needed, would provide another 4 inches or so, and it too can be adjusted. I am very impressed with the design.
The built-in audio-out port is brilliant - because many new cars have an auxilary stereo mini port for input. I tried using the FM and it seems to work ok, though not as clear as the direct connection via a mini cable. All of these devices are limited to the same transmitting power by the FCC, so the FM signal will always be a challenge in big cities with clogged radio stations - this dock seems to be on par with others I have had in the past.
The blue-backlit display is clear and high-quality. Changing FM stations is easy to do. And overal this looks very good in your car. They have done a nice job on this device.
Transpod.......2007-11-08
Great product for listening to your iPod in the car and charging it while you listen. Signal comes in clear, but if you live in a big city with lots of stations it can be tricky finding a clear station. As far as FM transmitters for MP3 players this works very well, and fits most iPods.
Not a bad alternative if you can't connect directly to your stereo.......2007-10-15
My 2004 Honda Accord doesn't have an accessable input for a direct connect so I purchased this FM transmitter after reading reviews at CNET (they loved it) and here at Amazon. Thankfully I didn't have to use the flimsy extension they provided as it JUST clears my shift when it is in park. The plug is also VERY tight and required (I think) considerable pressure to seat it in the auxiliary power outlet. Once I found an empty FM station and inserted the IPOD it worked extremely well. I'd give it five stars but for the flimsy extension and the extremely tight plug connection. It's worth having!!
Don't get this one!.......2007-09-20
Don't get this unit. I purchased it because my other unit allows the iPod to float around the car, and I thought it would be good to have it mounted firmly. However, it has such a weak transmission, I have severe to moderate static at all times. I know it is a signal strength or interference issue because, when I pull into a covered structure (garage, tunnel, etc.) the static clears, and sound quality is fair. If you need a transmitter, I would recommend a Kensington 33199 Digital FM Transmitter, it works wonderfully.

Practical.......2006-11-07
If you don't have a stereo with an entrance for Ipod, this product will help you a lot, you won't use your CD's anymore.
Just the solution I was looking for.......2005-11-29
After trying and giving up on Belkin's TuneCast II, I tried DLO's Transpod (White). At $100, it's expensive, but you can quickly forget that when you hear the sound quality. Things I like include the following:
1. It uses the 12V power supply and charges the iPod while it's in use
2. The multiple arms make it possible to fit almost any automobile
3. The transmitter is powerful (overrides most stations even in the Bay Area). I've almost never had to switch stations
4. You don't need to use the iPod volume control. The signal (fixed line out) is directly tapped from the multipurpose socket at the bottom of the iPod.
Negatives:
1. No user defined memory settings
2. No aux-in inputs for non iPod devices
Both these features are provided in the new model - in my opinion, that's a better model to choose.
Product does what it advertises itself to do........2005-09-27
I won't repeat what the other reviews have said about some of the shortcomings of this product (such as the extension arms that go into the power outlet - weakly designed in fact the shorter one broke when I was trying to pull it out again from the socket)But I too used the dash mounted option with some industrial strength velcro and it works fine. I will concentrate on what you purchase the product for - sound quality. I am a former recording engineer so I am picky as to what I want to hear. This unit sounds great but with a few caveats. It only sounds as good as the source quality of the music you are playing and have ripped to the IPOD. Regular CDs ripped at 128kbps sound as good as an MP3 will. Also, I think it has a lot to do with the quality of your stereo in the car. My 2004 Prius happened to have a stock Toyota stereo out of the dealership that rocks. I haven't had to do anything to it. Yes it's true that it doesn't use the IPOD's amp so you might have to turn it up a bit, but it does utilize the EQ in the IPOD. Overall I am pleased with the product once I figured out the best way to mount it in my car.
Transpod review.......2005-09-21
Great product! Multi adjustable, will fit almost any position. Good reception with the wireless FM transmitter. Very nice looking.
Decent but there has to be a better solution somewhere out there!.......2005-08-28
I recently received an iPOD Photo and after loading in tons of CD's I said . . . hey why not buy an all in 1 adapter for my car. My transpod arrived but I had difficulty inserting the adapter into my car's charger. After working that out and using it everyday for a week, it stopped working. I realized that the fuse had blown. It's small and relatively compact unlike the Griffin RoadTrip, but it's a whole lot of drama for the price.
With regard to the quality of the sound through my vehicle's audio system, I am extremely disappointed. What sounds like a million dollars through headphones does not translate to what you hear through fm radio frequencies. I have adjusted the iPOD's equalizer and played around with some options inside my car, but I am extremely disappointed. If someone has a better alternative . . . GOD BLESS YOU but don't waste your money on this product.
