The Emerson iTone iP550BK portable stereo system is a compact, portable device that lets you dock and charge any "dockable" iPod (as of January 2006) and play it through the built-in speakers. Because your iPod connects directly to the front- mounted docking system, this system is ideal for when you want to share your music with others, or for those times when listening through your earbuds is simply not an option. This system also features a digital clock and AM/FM tuner with a full-function remote control. And thanks to a couple of connection extras--a USB connector and an auxiliary input--you can connect both newer non-docking iPods, such as the iPod shuffle, and older first-generation iPods, MP3 players, and personal CD players.
It's a breeze to customize the iTone iP550BK according to your personal preferences. The digital turner automatically scans the AM and FM bands and locks in stations perfectly with no repetitive fine tuning required. You can also save 20 of your favorite stations (10 AM and 10 FM) in the preset memory tuner for immediate recall at the touch of a button. The digital clock, meanwhile, lets you fall asleep and wake up to the radio or your iPod, while the full-function remote control makes for extremely convenient operation. Well sometimes the one you least expect and the one most likely overlooked, comes up with a winner! Emerson really surpised me. I was going to buy a Logitech MM50 but when I put them side by side, Emerson iTone iP550 won out. The Logitech had deep sound but reverberated badly. I was surpised at the clarity and pretty good bass on this model. As a matter of fact, when I put it at its height, it retained a great sound without jumping off the counter. Now, get this, what was most suprising was its cost. It was literally more than $70 cheaper than the more popular Logitech!! Okay, it doesn't have the accessories, i.e., carry bag and ultra slimness in design, but its got everything else and more: radio, preset stations, clock, sleep button, digital remote, along with stuff you would expect in the big names. And its cute too! For what you get and for the money you pay, you can't beat it. AND, if you really tell the truth, the only difference in this little guy and those "speaker-only" types, it admits to being a boom box rather than just "stereo speakers." Maybe that's why they are trying to charge more for giving you less!

Hard to say..........2007-04-09
I've had this alarm for about a year now. I bought it on clearance and for the price I paid, it has given me more features than any alarm I've ever had... but yet, I kind of hate it. It it not intuitive (I always have to keep the instructions handy), the snooze button is WAY too small, the radio does not work, or even when it does you can expect to get fuzz the next time you turn it on, though you didn't touch the dial. I hate that you can't sleep to one volume and wake to another. It feels cheap and the font labelling each button looks awful. However...
It has so many great features. Waking to any track of a CD is great, I love the gradu-wake feature and, most of all, the WEEKEND CANCEL. Why every clock doesn't offer that I do not understand. I like being able to see the 2 alarm times at a glance. The nap feature is great, too.
Overall, if I could find a better, sleeker clock on the market I'd buy it. But for now, I cannot find anything comparable worthy of replacing it.
Terrible (Non-Existant, Actually) Reception.......2006-01-28
I purchased this clock for my son to use. He immediately complained that he couldn't get any "good" radio stations, but I figured he just wasn't familiar with the controls. So I tried, and it was true - we could only get one radio station (we live in the Boston area, so there's no shortage of stations to choose from). I tried moving the clock from room to room to see if there was just a dead area in my house, but no luck. We even took it over to my parent's house to try there, and no luck.
Basically, you'll get a nice clock that will play CDs, but if you really want a radio, keep looking!
Easy for your kids to use.......2005-11-22
If you desire, this clock will only wake you up during the week and not the weekends, or have it wake you up all week. Kids need only to push the off button and it resets itself for the next day. The display lights can be dimmed. The display tells you what time the 1st and 2nd alarms are going to go off at, and if it is going to be cd, radio, or alarm that wakes you up. Read the quick easy to read manual, and set it up, then you won't have to touch it again except to turn it off. This is my second order for this clock, because I am going to replace my current alarm clock with it!

I was very excited when I received this item as a gift. It has all the features I want. One of the main features I want though, didn't work and that was the radio. I had the same problem with my unit as others have had. I got 2 FM stations to come in that I like out of about 20 that I like and get in perfectly on other radios in my home. The two stations that did come in on this unit were unreliable. I would wake up late because the station would be all fuzzy that was just coming in the day before. Not good for getting to work on time! The manufacturer said that the power cord acts as the FM antenna. I tried moving it, fully extending it, etc. Nothing worked. My old clock radio I've had for 20+ years is so much more reliable and gets in so many more stations in exactly the same spot. I was extremely disappointed.

If you want to listen to a particular station, I don't recommend this item. I tried to find a number of popular radio stations, but none of them came in clearly. I got a spanish station in clearly, but I don't know spanish and wouldn't really enjoy listening to that station. I just wanted to wake to some music I'm familiar with. That wasn't possible with this item.
