Designed by Henry Dreyfuss and originally cast in metal, this piece was later produced using a heavy-duty plastic housing. The retro style appearance is combined with a rugged construction earning it the nickname "The Cow's Hoof" because of its lipped hoof-style base. We were looking for a telephone which was something different for our den desk. This telephone is a winner! It is solidly built, heavy, and very authentic. The ringer is not the bird chirp of modern cordless phones, but sounds just like the original metal bell ringer with adjustable volume and on/off. The handset is quite heavy but angled to fit your head (unlike modern flat brick designs). Sound quality is excellent and the dial is unique. We love the phone and Amazon had the best price out there.

This is the heavy duty, easy to hold, desk phone with the familiar old-fashioned ring. The flash and redial features are incorporated in the face plate. This is a great product.

I love my phone. It's beautiful. I often let it ring several times before answering it, because the sound of the bell is delightful. The handset has weight and size in my hand, and my friends' and family members' voices sound like my friends' and family members' voices! Oh, and did I mention that it is red? A feast for the eyes even when it's just sitting there! There's no annoying answering machine blinking a to-do list at me when I come home from work exhausted (if it's really important, my cell phone has voice mail!)Thank you for selling me a product that has brought back beauty and pleasure to telephone communication.

I just wish the ringer would be more adjustable (too loud on softest setting!)

I love my retro style red phone, it's perfect in the kitchen. Besides the 1940's look it SOUNDS like a phone when it rings. It does have two draw backs, so I wouldn't have it as an only phone. First it is heavy, the part that you hold up to your ear is very heavy -- so I don't use it for long conversations. Second, it doesn't have a redial feature. But for occasional use in the kitchen it's great.

Lightlid 35 is pathetic!.......2007-03-05
I needed to scan many slides to make a DVD for my parent's anniversary. My brother gave me his Lightlid 35 and Microtek scanner (not X6). The Lightlid barely did what I needed it to. It's a piece of junk. However, it seemed I couldn't touch any other slide scanner for less than a few hundred dollars. Anyway, if you don't need perfect scans of slides, this Lightlid is for you. Beware, forget scanning slides that are too light or too dark, it can't read them.
ScanMaker X6 is a great deal!.......2000-02-18
I purchased my Microtek ScanMaker X6 and just recieved it. After taking about twenty minutes to install the USB version on my PowerBook, I installed the drivers, and it worked wonderfully. To get the best scans out of this machine, it requires that you use higher DPI. I found that using ScanWizard through Photoshop much more accurate than using the ScanMaker program. Overall, this product produces EXCELLENT images (And I'm a picky photographer). Great deal!
