3 out of 5 stars 2 1/2 Year Shelf Life.......2007-11-12

We got this phone when we moved to a new house with only three phone jacks. The battery life has been great, as long as we put the cordless phones on the docks. The PhoneBook feature is fantastic. BUT...now I have lost use of the ON and OFF buttons on our most used handset. Making it nearly impossible to answer, or hang up a call. We haven't had any other issues, clear, loud and convenient, until 2 and a half years later.

3 out of 5 stars OK - not great.......2007-09-26

I thought the quality on my phone was just fine, but the battery didn't last (replaced it in < 1 yr and now, 6 mos. later, the 2nd one is going) and the 2nd handset keep losing contact with the base. IN addition, the base is not what I consider wallmountable...since it juts off the wall a good 8-10 inches (and gets whacked by everyone that walks by). I would have expected more from motorola.

REgarding some other reviews, clearly people did not read their manual s or play with their phone, so I feel a need to clear a few things up:
1. phone not ringing on cordless hand set OR phone ringing too loudly on handset---> you can adjust each handset to high, medium, low, off, or a different ring. Each handset adjusts separately (my bedroom is on low, my family room is on high).
2. No volume control for earpiece --> There is an up/down controller on the side of the headset that allows for earpiece volume control.

2 out of 5 stars solid base with bad handsets.......2007-06-14

We got this phone (base with two handsets) three years ago for close to $150. The reception was good, the base is solid. We love the walkie-talkie feature. But as many reviewers said the phonebook is annoying, no search function at all. That's not the worst, both handsets lost function of quite some buttons. One is impossible to use other than taking a call. I am not sure if Motorola is bad at this or what. I own a simple Motorola cell phone, which also has two keys lost function. In addition, the handsets had very short battery life, talking maximum 20 min. The phone including the base will not ring sometimes, I am not sure it's the problem of the phone or the phone service company (Vonage). Now we are looking to just change the handsets, not sure if other brands' handsets will work with this phone base.

1 out of 5 stars total garbage.......2006-12-09

after finally accepting the fact that Uniden phones are worthless, I decided to spend more money and go for a name I trusted, Motorola. But instead of getting a quality phone what I got was one of the worst phones I've ever owned. I don't even know where to start...

Sound quality wasn't great to begin with but after a few months it was mostly bad (echoes, interference, etc.).

The batteries immediately began to indicate that they were losing power as soon as they were removed from the charger. Though I noticed it immediately, I didn't think much of it at first. I assumed the phone software was just calibrated strictly to indicate loss of power. But now I'm looking at this phone that I've owned for over a year and the battery, after getting a full charge, will only last for maybe 10-20 mins!

The phonebook system is ridiculous - why didn't they just make it like a cellphone's? If you have lots of contacts, you must scroll through them all, there are no shortcuts within the phonebook system. The phone has two phonebooks (public and private), but you can't choose a default (the way the phonebook system is designed makes this 'feature' incredibly annoying).

I could go on and on... but why? Terrible reception; bad batteries; moronic phonebook interface should be enough to make anyone say 'NO'.. but believe me, it doesn't stop there.. there are numerous problems with this phone. TOTAL GARBAGE!!

1 out of 5 stars Worst phone ever.......2006-08-20

This is absolutely the worst phone we've ever owned. The sound quality is terrible and the battery loses it's charge in just a few hours. Do not buy this phone. We're now looking for new phones to replace these.

1 out of 5 stars Piece of junk........2007-10-11

The phone systematically fell apart. One handset at a time. The base phone did not break, but was of questionable quality.

4 out of 5 stars not bad for me........2006-07-02

before i give my impressions, i have a quick question. on my phone, after i've listened to all my new messages or even delete them all from voice mail, the voice mail light continues to blink. any ideas why or how to make it reset? thanks.

i like the speaker phones on the base and cordless, they work well. has a lot of features. the handset on the base could grab a little better when you hang up. i just wanted one with speakerphones, and a corded base phone since i don't want to have to worry about the phone going dead in a call. is a pretty nice phone for me and with a couple mods, i'd really love it.

1 out of 5 stars Steer clear of this Motorola home phone!!!.......2006-05-31

I'm writing this a year and a half after this phone system died completely.

I researched this phone over several different sites, and I took the negative reviews with a grain of salt. Take my advice...I'm a trendy "gadget freak"...do not buy any home phone from Motorola.

The voice quality of the digital answering machine is garbled and muddy. My daughter's toy walkie talkies sound better! I have to delete half of my messages because I cannot understand them.

The first handset completely died (not just the battery...the entire handset) after just 7 months. I figured that it was more hassle than it was worth to contact Motorola for a repair/ exchange...besides I had another handset, right?!?

The second handset also died about a month ago. Once again...not the battery, the interior components died. It lasted a whole year and 3 months.

Finally, the answering machine just gave up. I guess it figured that it had no other option since the other two components died as well.

I understand that phones don't last forever, but for just under a hundred and a half bucks...I wanted at least another year or two. My last Toshiba cordless lasted 7 years. My Uniden is still going at 5 years. I replaced this phone with another Uniden...with a much better/ clearer digital answering machine.
I know they probably don't make this particular unit anymore...but I'm sure there was a reason they stopped!

2 out of 5 stars So sad, cause I love this phone.......2006-03-28

I am on my 3 set because I was lucky enough to have bought the replacement warranty from PC Richards the first 2 times around. I got this phone because I wanted a corded base and cordless phones too. I was happy to find this combo with expandable base units that don't require jacks. I have Optimum Voice, which runs through my cable modem and I have never experienced any problems with the phone not dialing due to the phone service. HOWEVER, I am on my 3rd set as I mentioned because the handsets seem to loose the ability to dial certain numbers over time. In one instance the handset stopped consistently dialing the number 3 in less than 6 months of buying the phone. When I say it won't dial, I mean you push the button and nothing comes up on the screen. It started out as you having to push harder, then pushing hard and with a little upward pressure, then now, it just won't dial.

I am beside myself because I now have to go out and buy a new handset or go with another phone. The options on this phone are so great. Some of the reviews I read indicate to me that they didn't quite understand how to use the phone correctly. You can turn a ringer or or lower the volume on any phone and the handsets can be set to automatically change depending on the time of day (i.e. in children's rooms you can have the ringer turn off at "night") and the volume buttons on the side work instantly if you've forgotten to change the ringer in advance.

The ability to call back from the caller ID with either an area code or none is a huge plus. You can store tons of numbers, intercom the other phones, even use the phones as a room monitor (if your baby monitor is already in use elsewhere) I love the size of the phone, it is a little heavy, but feels substantial and solid and the button layout and size is great. Some phones have such little buttons you press 2 at once in error.

I hear superior sound quality, and have range enough to drive away from my house and make it down the block before I loose the call (sometimes I forget it's not a cell!)

You can set the caller ID to give you info on your call waiting incoming call, but this must be set up through the OV website. Sometimes I have calls that come in as "incoming call" but those have people have had unlisted numbers, (not blocked numbers). If they are blocked, it comes up as "blocked call". I believe that the people who were having some issues may have been unaware of how to set some functions up.

Regardless of all the pluses, the phone I have sitting next to me now does not dial the number 3 and the 1 and 0 are starting to "stick" so I have to caution everyone to buy the replacement warranty or go with another phone. My friend has the same phone and told me about her phone "crapping out" before I ever had a problem, so it's not just me, or how I use my phone.

Happy phone shopping!

2 out of 5 stars A failed product.......2006-02-20

I bought this phone for it's corded base unit, answering machine and cordless accessories phones.
1. The corded handset on the base is hard to hang up in the right position.
2. The answering machine garbles messages so badly they are unable to understand them. It records hang up calls, that can only be deleted during the brief time during play back. I bought another answering machine to substitute.
3. It will not work for all touch tone services.
4. When using a cordless handset it will turn on the speakerphone of another cordless handset.
