ok mp3 player.......2007-03-05
Yes it is a good value for the money and the belt clip case that comes with the player is a plus. There is no software to download if you already have windows xp or higher. It uses windows media player 10 or higher. Simply plug in and the computer will recognize the player as an external hard drive. I have not tried all of the extras yet, like the photos or downloading data, I just wanted my music on there. And that is where the problem is. I enjoy having playlists. I was able to figure out how to make one playlist but when I tried to make more, it would just overide the first one that I had. There are no true instructions because they expect windows media to be self explaintory. The player is also recognized by napster and music match. both of which I can not manage my playlist. So if you want to download music and ramdomly play your music, get an ipod shuffle, it is smaller.
Wonderful While It Lasts.......2006-11-14
This mp3 player has wonderful sound quality, is easy to manage, and is lightweight and comes w/ a convenient clip. Unfortunately, it broke down 5 months after I bought it. If your willing to spend the money, go for it. Just don't expect it to last too long.
Do some research.......2006-07-14
The refurb unit received looks as new. Before and after purchase I strongly suggest you look at discussion threads on the misticriver web site. You need to understand things like "the ums trick", the differences between the firmware in the US version and the asian version of the player, and the kinds of things that other users have had trouble with. If you buy one, before you load it up with all your music files, load two or three albums or playlists and get a feeling for how it works. Then, after reading he misticriver threads, go to the iRiver web site, download the updater for the latest firmware, and do a reformat/restore of the player. You will end up doing it some time in the future, anyway, so learn how to do it before you fill the player up with all your music. It works, but it has a personality. The music quality is great into a pair of circa $30 Sennheiser headphones. The FM tuner is a great plus if you like listening to FM radio.
disappointing.......2006-07-07
This mp3 player was great when I first got it. However, I've not had it even a week yet, and it has begun freezing up and having other various problems. I would not suggest this item.
It may become a ghost............2006-07-03
I loved this product for 4 months (it does have lots of gadgets that I love) and then.....for no reason at all my computer no longer recognizes it! Rhapsody doesn't recognize it....It's turned into a ghost although I can see it!
I can play all of the songs that I owned myself but everything through the subscription service has run out and can't be reinstalled. I've done a little research about the disappearing MP3 player and it appears to be a problem that is affecting a lot of the H10's and 1 other model I can't remember right now and iRiver can't figure it out; although I've been told they are trying desperately to find the bug....So buy with caution....

A "little" too little and a little too tall.......2007-11-29
While this product had all the features I wanted (plug in, alarm clock, radio, CD player with earplugs) and the sound is great - it's not exactly user friendly (I've had it two months now and still have not mastered how to turn the alarm off for the weekends) and the tiny labels on the machine require me to use a magnifying glass. Also, since it is tall, it is not quite as unobtrusive on my night table as I would like. And I've yet to find the weather feature. But all in all, since I could not find another on the market with the features I require, I like it.
User-friendly, maybe not snoozer-friendly.......2007-11-19
This is one ambitious clock radio. About the only thing it can't do is make the coffee. Wake to radio. Wake to buzzer. Wake to CD. Wake gently. Wake abruptly. Let you nap. Let you go to sleep. Listen to AM. Listen to FM. Listen to TV (for now - the TV signals will cease when TV goes all-digital). Listen to weather. With digital tuning and enhanced bass. And more.
The price you pay for all these options is that the buttons are many and tiny. Well, I can't figure out how Sony could have avoided that problem and still produced a small footprint. So I say if you demand the functions you should be willing to do what it takes to use them.
I can see that folks who are bleary in the morning might have problems making the best use of every control. In my case, we have the radio in the bathroom and it's just great. But I don't often take naps in the tub.
The Obsessive Buyer's Clock Radio Review.......2007-11-19
I purchased this radio for my wife b/c she needs all the help she can get to get up in the morning. The gradual wake buzzer is really good and as advertised. The point was to get an alarm that doesn't wake you up on the wrong side of the bed and this one accomplishes that well.
I was disappointed with the MegaBass feature. The radio gets loud but doesn't have the full sound that my Bose radio has. I didn't expect it to; but, it's not even close. So don't expect this device to provide rich sound. The MegaBass adjuster doesn't change anything, as far as I can discern.
The auto dimmer is really cool; the light is perfect for night time and you can adjust it on your own during the day if you want it brighter. I errs on the side of dimmer.
The TV, Radio, and Weather bands work well, though the TV only goes up to channel 12, so don't expect to get FOX! The weather band is cool. The CD player does play my CDRs and that is cool too. I have heard that the gradual wake volume function only is designed for the buzzer not the radio or CD player but that is a bummer; but, I have not tried this myself yet.
Yeah what they say about the viewing angle of the clock is parly true, from my POV. You can't see ours if it's above you, but it's never above and you can see it from across the room.
Overall, Solid Sony multi-functioning clock radio. Don't purchase as a compact stereo. But, I think it does a fine job of bridging the gap between the standard alarm clock and the couple hundred dollar plus high end Bose-esque compact system.
We're happy; FYI, I purchased ours refurbished from Ubid.com for $52 and are available at Sony.com for $59!! It had a small wear mark on the speaker (cloth) cover, but for half price...
Great for the price!!!.......2007-11-08
I recently ordered this Alarm Clock/CD player with some trepedation, since after reading all the previoius reviews of this item I wasn't entirely sold that it was the best use of my limited funds...but I'm glad I did!
If I had spent $200 or more, I would want the LCD display not to disappear at certain angles (but I think that's the nature of LCDs) as well as wishing it had a battery back-up. But other than that, it's got great stereo sound and is perfect to fall asleep with...and that's what I wanted. It won't replace your state-of-the-art Stereo System, but that's not its function!!! It's just a good little bedside alarm/radio/cd player to fall asleep and wake up with!!!!
Some good, some bad.......2007-10-29
Pros: Good sound, digital radio tuning with presets, good price from Amazon, plays CDs, works with headphones
Cons: very hard to use, can't see the display from an angle, doesn't replace a good alarm clock
I basically bought this to replace a clock radio I've had for years. The old one had poor sound and analog tuning. This has good sound and digital tuning. It also plays CDs and will run headphones. But there are some major problems. I have the unit on my dresser, and at that upwards angle from my bed, you can't read the time on the LCD screen. Secondly, the unit is very hard to use. The buttons are very hard to read (I have to use my reading glasses in bright light) and they aren't logical. There should be a big button on the top to cut of the alarm easily when you wake up, but instead there is a small button on the front (one of three of that size). If you are going to be changing the alarm time often, you are better off with a regular alarm clock. For both of these reasons, I'm keeping my old unit to use as an clock and alarm clock. There is a "mega bass" dial, but the sound doesn't seem right to me unless the megabass is all of the way up, so I don't see the need for a dial to turn it down. As far as the FM tuning, it goes to every 0.1 MHz, whereas FM stations are 0.2 MHz apart (on the odd ones). Therefore it takes twice as long to tune in a station than it should.
On the positive side, the sound is much better than my old clock radio and it has digital tuning and presets. It is actually good enough to listen to, rather than just waking you up. The CD player is pretty good for a unit like this, and the headphone jack works well enough.
Summary: it doesn't replace a good alarm clock and it doesn't replace a stereo, but it does fill a gap in between.
