Awesome and doesn't break like Ipods.......2007-04-13
My 12 year old daughter teased me when I purchased this "Ipod knock-off" as she called it, but I am the one laughing now. She is on her second Ipod (and is ready to purchase a third because the second one doesn't work now either), and my Zen Nano just plays and plays. I have never had the "freezing" problems that she has. The LCD screen is small, but then again you are paying less than half of the price of an Ipod and you know that going in. It holds more songs than I know and it never breaks. LOVE IT!

Boasting an acoustically balanced wooden enclosure and an enhanced front-firing 3-inch speaker, the Sangean WR-2 tabletop radio offers the sound and features of a living room system in a cabinet that fits conveniently in a bedroom, kitchen, or garage. Any discussion of the WR-2 begins with its white wooden housing, which is rich in both appearance and tone. The cabinet's front surface features the speaker on the left side, a series of intuitively placed control buttons toward the bottom, and a generously sized LCD display in the middle with three brightness levels. More importantly, the cabinet teams with the 7-watt amplifier and the acoustic bass compensation system to add warmth and depth to the audio. Complementing the housing is Sangean's advanced RF/IF electronic circuitry, which picks up distant AM and FM stations and reproduces them with unmatched clarity, making music and even talk programs come alive.
Even though the WR-2 is advertised as an AM/FM radio, it offers much more than a standard digital tuner, including a Radio Data System (RDS) that displays short text messages on applicable FM stations, along with support for the Enhanced Other Network (EON) and its traffic information (available in certain regions). And unlike most tabletop radios, the WR-2 lets listeners adjust the treble and bass levels via the variable volume control. In its default mode, the rotary volume knob displays the volume level from 1 to 60. Tap it once, however, and it turns into a full-range treble control, and two taps creates a full-range bass control. Additional features include a clock with an alarm (radio or buzzer), an auxiliary input jack for connecting such devices as an iPod or MP3 player (both of which sound great through the speaker), a recording output jack, 10 memory presets that help you quickly find your favorite stations, and a full-featured infrared remote control.
A final bonus stems from the power backup function, which plays the radio for six minutes during a power failure (ideal for emergencies) and retains the memory preset and clock values for about an hour. The WR-2 measures roughly 9.5 by 4.5 by 6 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 5.5 pounds.

Good radio, but not for my bedside........2007-11-25
I had read all the reviews and decided to buy one of these for my dad (in silver). He absolutely loves it, but it is true that he looks at another clock at night for the time. He turns the backlight off on this clock.
I decided to get one for myself (white), and when it arrived I was stoked. It sounds fantastic, it's of a really good quality, etc. Too bad I can't sleep with it in my bedroom! The reviews complaining about the backlight are dead-on. The lowest-level backlight keeps me awake at night and casts an eerie light on the room (imagine going to bed with your computer monitor on). The mid-level backlight is bright enough to wake me up before the radio sound does.
And this brings me to my only other complaint: When you wake up to the radio, you cannot see the time. If you're the type who wants to lay in bed and listen to the news for a few minutes, you had better hope they tell you what time it is.
This is an awesome radio, but I'm considering selling it (too late to return it at this point). Unless I buy myself another clock to look at in the dark, I simply won't get any sleep.
Solution to a problem!.......2007-09-13
We live in a rather dead area for FM reception and unfortunately, this included our favorite easy-listening FM station. I wish I had a refund for every FM radio we have purchased only to find the reception very bad and full of static. The Sangean WR-2 solved our problem - reception is great, tone is superb. Well worth every penny.
Sangean WR-2 Rating.......2007-06-27
Recently I had to "give up" on a 35 year old KLH radio that was magnificent. After looking at several products, I purchased the WR-2 Sangean. Very compact, very clean lines, outstanding sound for a radio of this size - and it can be accessed either "manually" or by remote. It's pick-up of remote FM stations is as good as I've found in our location. A very, very nice radio especially or the modest price.
Night-time companion.......2007-05-17
Well built quality product. Easy to use features. I especially like the volume knob which gives smooth and precise control. The sound quality is very nice. Somewhat disapointed in the AM reception at nightime, but it does better than my other home radios. I won't name my first born after this radio, but I do recommend it. Very good value and well satisfied with purchase.

This was in fact the BEST radio ever....sound is excellent, convenience can't compare and a remote!! My husband is very finicky and this was one of the BEST products...highly recommend.

A Quality Product, Don't Worry!.......2007-12-27
I had wanted a new clock radio to replace an old one that made noise each AM waking me up for over fifteen years.
This is the one! Some of us like "heavy, solid, built well, like a rock", and indeed this is a really fine radio.
It has a wonderful sound for a small table radio, is beautifully finished, and so far, for the past six months very reliable alarm wise to get one up!
Keep the instruction book close for the first month, though- setting the alarm takes a bit of practice, but it's worth it!

I like White . . ........2006-07-28
But was hesitant ordering a white WR-2 when the classic wood grain version has been around longer with so many satisfied owners. Reading one reviewer's post that the cabinet is not solid wood (instead wood veneer over particleboard) boosted my confidence but I still feared the possibility of ending up with a WR-2 with a white but cheesy finish. Buying things over the internet without touching and handling in person can be risky. Having recently unboxed my new WHITE WR-2, I am writing to say I am overwhelmingly pleased with my decision; you couldn't pay me to take the wood grain cabinet now. You would never know the cabinet is wood other than the solid weight and feel of the radio; the finish appears to be a high grade white plastic (like my iPod Nano but presumably with wood underneath). Absolutely Beautiful!
Originally I was shopping for the CC radio (made popular by advertising on Art Bell's program) but after reading reviews that identified problems with the display and memory buttons decided to review all radios I was able to find online (there are hundreds) and pick the best to meet my needs. I chose the WR-2 because it is fairly unique not having any buttons or knobs on the top or sides and advertised as having decent AM reception (I mostly use my radio bedside and listen for about an hour as I fall asleep at night and only rarely as an alarm clock. I will post again after I have a chance to become more critical of it's features and possible shortcomings. For now I am still dazzled with the appearance and simple layout of controls/features that according to my extensive internet search are relatively unique to this particular handsome radio.
Warm Speaker Sound and Great AM Reception.......2006-01-20
This is a very appealing clock radio with digital readout that gives you name of song, artist, and other information as you listen. The mono aural speaker is warm and full. The radio is attractive, solid and well-built, evincing nothing cheap or plastic-laden. The AM is very good. Most FM stations come in strong. But hard-to-get FM stations like 89.3 from Pasadena (I live 40 miles away in Torrance) requires that I move the FM antenna, but this is not a big deal, just a nitpick.
Another important point: Because this radio has a remote control, it works great in your computer office. You can keep the WR-2 six feet or so away from your computer and avoid interference as you toggle stations and volume with your remote.
Post Script: Make sure to turn on the external antenna switch in the back of the Sangean. It improves reception by tenfold.
