5 out of 5 stars U2 iPod.......2007-09-16

The price was GREAT! I'm very happy with this purchase, and the shipping time was fantastic! Awesome Christmas present for my daughter :-)

5 out of 5 stars Nice Music Player.......2007-08-23

Who doesn't like iPod's? I got this one to replace a 4G ipod that was giving me problems. And U2 is one of my fav bands, so why not getting it. Isn't that expensive as it was a couple of years ago and I already use iTunes for my music, so its all fine. Also really good to carry files as an external hard drive. Excellent for traveling or when in the bus. A must have I would say.

1 out of 5 stars What an aggravating little machine this is! iFlop is more like it.......2007-08-07

OK first of all, I've always had high regards for Apple products because they are artsy and functional. I purchased the 60GB and a very expensive Vaja case for it. I was so proud of my new ipod.
Little did I know that I am just a pawn in Apple's plot to take over the world by controling the entertainment industry.
FIRST of all, the reason I bought this was for video. Then to find out what a pain it is to convert a DVD over. I have to run Decrypter and then Videora. This takes forever. (To be fair you have to do the same for all the other players.) (And it is easier to convert tv shows from my ReplayTV DVR since no Decryptor is needed.) BUT why do I have to convert to begin with. Why couldn't they have made it more automatic? I actually bought a video from itunes just to make sure the dang thing worked to begin with.
SECOND, I purchased a new computer and had to go through 12 pages of instructional garbage that I printed from the Apple website to get my files over to the new computer. CREATIVE which is superior to Apple ipod in EVERY WAY!, does this like one would expect, plug the Creative unit into the new computer and it's done. This is all part of Apple attempting to control how and what I listen to AND mostly control my library. Under itunes, you can register up to 5 computers. How dare Apple restrict how many computers I'm allowed to use with my ipod. If I want to plug my ipod into another computer to get a file, then I should be able to do it plain and simple without the Apple police out to shut me down every time. Just more fuel for the fire in my opinion.
THIRD and by far my bigest complaint. WHERE IS THE CUSTOM EQ SETTING? Dear Apple I hope you are reading this, please let me select my own eq settings. All yours are terrible. The 1K frequency range is set too high so my music distorts easly. Too many years have passed by to justify your lack of this option. OH AND BY THE WAY, CREATIVE HAS A CUSTOM EQ SETTING!
I know what you citizens are thinking, how can Apple NOT have this feature. Does this reviewer know what he is talking about? Well for those of you who doubt me, go to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61567
So what does this all mean? As a matter of fact, right now I'm listening to mp3 music on my headphones at work as I type this. At the end of my headphone cord is not my ipod but my laptop computer. Plain and simply IT SOUNDS BETTER then my ipod ever did or ever will.

5 out of 5 stars fenomenal.......2007-07-25

Great ipod, good screen definition and colors,30 GB is plenty of space for me, I am using it for running, in the car, BBQing and travelling with out any problem. I am very happy with it.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2007-07-05

I got this a a Xmas gift and I absolutely love it! Can't go wrong.

Amazon.com Review

The Etón Sound 100 is a small and stylish clock radio that is ideal for small spaces such as the office, workshop, kitchen, or bedside table. Its advantages over similar devices includes its retro/futuristic stylings and the powerful punch of distortion free music it delivers from its mono speaker and rear-directed subwoofer.

Setup and Control
We found the Etón 100 a snap to setup, relying on the included manual. Its functions are so simple and to the point, its controls so intuitive, that there is hardly any need for a manual.

The radio includes AM and FM, with five presets for each. AM ranges from 520 to 1710 KHz in 10 KHz increments, and FM RDS from 87.50 to 108.00 KHz in 0.05 KHz increments. The FM signal comes from an old school chromed, telescoping antenna that can be rotated to any needed angle, while the AM antenna is a built-in loop. Stations can be micro-tuned by quickly pressing the up or down tune buttons on the remote or the device itself. Holding the tune button down for a few seconds scans reliably to the next available station.

A small and stylish clock radio with a retro yet futuristic look (black version shown).

While delivering standard clock radio features, it is also mp3- and ipod-ready. View larger.

Pick a color that's right for you.

Simple and intuitive controls, plus an included remote.
We found that the Etón 100's high-sensitivity, digital PLL tuner could pull in crystal clear FM and AM stations, even without extending the antenna. Two AA batteries provide backup of the settings in case of power failure, but the included power supply is needed to power the device.

The alarm wakes you with your choice of a chime or one of your preset radio stations, and features a five minute snooze button, if you can't yet face the day. Of course you can also connect your favorite MP3 player and use its alarm to wake you with via the radio's speaker. If you like falling asleep to music you can easily set the sleep timer in increments of 15 to 90 minutes.

Back to the Future
With the look of an old-time radio restyled for the 21st century, the Etón 100 draws attention to itself as a little work of art in its own right. The large silver volume knob and three-inch speaker dominate the face. Sleekly rounded corners give a contemporary and finished look. Rubber feet keep it from sliding or scratching your furniture. It is small enough to fit easily on a desk or night-stand, but not so tiny that it won't attract attention: 8.27 x 4.53 x 5.1 inches (W x H x D). The display is gently backlit in blue and gives all the information you need, including time, station, alarms, and sleep timer functions. Design-wise it's a statement of urban chic and modern style in a small and functional package.

Sound
Although the sound from its three inch, full-range, magnetically-shielded mono speaker is never going to compete with your home stereo system, or with more expensive and larger stereo radios, it delivers a surprising punch and range, in combination with its rear-firing subwoofer. What pleased us most about the Etón 100's sound is its crisp clarity. Plenty of small speaker systems rattle and buzz as soon as you turn the volume more than halfway up. We cranked this little box up to room-filling volumes without the slightest hint of a buzz. Although it allows no audio adjustments (such as bass and treble) subwoofer gain is calibrated with volume in order to maintain a constant balance of high and low dynamic range.

Along with a 3.5 millimeter jack for headphones, there is a mini-jack input for a CD or MP3 player. We got great sound from an iPod simply by setting it at full volume and letting the Etón 100 do the rest.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Performs as well as Tivoli and Sangean with great Retro/Modern Design .......2007-12-23

Like the previous poster I am a radio nut/collector.
I have owned several Tivoli's, as well as a Sangean WR-1 and WR-2. They all have their strong points and weaknesses, but this is a strong competitor to any of them, and the price is right when Amazon runs a sale.

I use the iPod dock version daily in the office and this version in the kitchen. I like its tone better than the Tivoli or Sangean (a little less bassy and more clear).

Am and Fm rececption are fine in the locations I use it. It sounds good, and is well made. Looks better in a modernish space than the Tivolis or Sangeans.

1 out of 5 stars way overpriced, plastic cheap feel to it, average tuner........2007-12-12

Not much to say here other than you can do much better with much less. I am a radio collector and right now you can do much better with a Sangean WR-1 or WR-2. This radio feels cheap and has an external power supply. Sound is about the same as a $25 no name unit you can buy at any department store.

4 out of 5 stars Eton Sound 100.......2007-11-28

I got this radio from Amazon when it was on sale (gold box deal). I've been using it to listen to AM/FM stations as well as connect my MP3 player to it. Overall I am happy with the purchase. Some of the pros and cons of this unit are:

Pros:
Excellent AM and FM reception
I do like the design and styling (I got the silver version)
Remote
Aux input
Audio quality is good for a unit this size

Cons:
No EQ/Tone control
Can not use external antenna or wire antenna

4 out of 5 stars simple with a punch of bass.......2007-11-27

great little radio, the price on amazon could not be beat. small and simple yet strong sound and the tuner picks up stations much better than other radios I owned. I wish the display could dimmed down a bit.

4 out of 5 stars A great table radio, not such a good bedside radio.......2007-11-09

I use as a bedside clock radio. Maybe that was not the market segment originally intended, as it is awkward at those functions.

Sound and tuning are exemplary. No complaints there. It's the bloody snooze button and the brightness of the display that make it a poor bedside clock radio.

The snooze button is tiny, about 1 inch by 1/4 inch, result: it is hard to hit precisely if you wake in a clumsy fog to the alarm. Aggravating the snooze button size issue: it is located right next to the alarm on/off button, so if you miss the snooze button you may accidentally hit the on/off button which will result in the alarm cycle being turned off.

The display backlight light rivals a light house. It lights up the entire room. I've got to find an adhoc way to dim that, or this radio is destined for the office.

I'd give this 4 stars as a bedroom clock radio... five stars as a table radio. The sound and tuning are quite satisfactory.
