Don't waste your money, there's no bass at all........2007-12-21
I bought these headphones for myself. I normally use Sony MDR-V700DJ phones. These are the gold standard for good sound.
When I first plugged these into my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Zs, I expected greatness. I was so sadly disappointed.
Pros:
great design.
detachable microphone sounds great.
extremely comfortable.
5-way volume control Front,Rear,Center,Bass,Master.
nifty LEDs.
Cons:
Sub-standard sound quality.
Sub-standard fake subwoofer.
ridiculously poor frequency response. (specs say 50-20k)(closer to 120-20k)
bad harmonic distortion on rear and center channels
Instead of including a real full-range sub-woofer, razer instead, opted for a vibrating quasi-speaker. The speaker doesn't produce the full range of audio that a subwoofer does. This thing creates vibrations at the specified frequency. The result doesn't fool the senses. It cuts out most of your bass frequencies. Even with the bass volume turned all the way up, the front, rear, and center turned all the way down, and an equalizer used, the bass is not even remotely where it needs to be.
The overall sound-profile sounds like a coffee can. The lack of real bass frequencies is just too much to overlook in these great looking phones. 5.1 headphones aren't where they need to be.
I'm not really a razer hater, I own two original boomslangs, the tarantula, and an exactmat. The HP-1 phones are a real disappointment.

Utterly disappointing! I have purchased numerous gaming headsets and headphones over the years. The build quality and feel of this headset is phenomenal. These ear cups are very comfortable to wear. Now on to the bad... The microphone did not work due to a defective jack that required me to pull down and hold the mic in order for it to properly make contact with the connector. The surround sound function is a joke. There is no aural separation. You just hear additional drivers. Bass is horrible. Listening to any music with deep bass made me instantly think of a bucket. Apparently the bass is rolled off at 50Hz. I fart lower than that. LOL. No mute button for the mic. This is the second Razer product that I have returned. The first being a Copperhead mouse that just stopped working. I suggest that they decrease their packaging expense and focus on build quality. I currently own a pair of Altec-Lansing AHS515. They have incredible sound quality, good mic sound. Be aware that they have a flaw too. The ear cups are held on by very delicate clips that can break if you drop them from any height. Epoxy them and be done with the problem. The Barracuda's have been returned and I purchased a second pair of Altec-Lansings.

After 2 months of use with the headphones the screws fell out from the earmuff holding it with the headset. it gave me good positional audio in Counter strike but the build quality should be better, i expected more from razer.

First off, I don't mind paying good money for a product. For a gaming headset (headphones w/ mic), the Razer Barracuda set leaves something to be desired... due to its fragile mic.
I had my Razer Barracuda headset for less than five months... and then one day the mic simply quit working. I hadn't changed a thing on my OS/computer during that time, nor had I abused my headset. I come to find out... numerous consumers have had problems with Razer Barracuda mics. For the money I paid, I expected this headset to have lasted much longer than five months. To this end, I rated these headphones with just one star and would not recommend them to anyone (for any price over $20.00). Why $20.00 you ask? Because... I have a generic headset that I purchased for $19.99 three years ago... and it's still going strong. ;)
