ETYMOTIC RESEARCH ER-6 Noise Isolating Earphones - ER-6 Isolator Earphones reduce outside sound levels by 34-36 dB (two to three times that of active noise-canceling earphones). Their high isolation allows you to hear the full range of today's digital recordings without having to play them at unnaturally high and unsafe levels. Since you don't have to boost the volume to overcome external noise, ear overload distortion is minimized.

Colleague-proof sound-blocking!.......2007-11-08
This product successfully blocks out my noisy colleagues. Awesome! My ears are a bit sore though... Takes some getting used to for the seal to be right and sound quality to be correct.
I returned them.......2007-11-04
I had these for two days. I already own a pair of sennheiser PX200 that I LOVE !! But I needed something with a better sound isolation.
And the sound isolation of these is great !! Really !!
But I felt a lack of dynamic and lack of bass. I'm not a big fan of crazy bass but I like a deep and accurate bass. MIA !!!
Don't even think about listening to any kind of music that requires good bass. However everytime my Ipod decide to give me a piece of classical music, I do appreciate these ER6.
Bottom line, good for classic or jazz, not for electro or hip hop !!
I'm returning them and I'm gonna spend a little more in the Shure 310 !! Wish me good luck !!
ER6 Isolators.......2007-11-02
Like the reviews online say, this an excellent product. They produce excellent sound quality, but if you want big bass these may not be what you are looking. The ER6i do have a higher volume output than these, but unless you want make your ears bleed these are perfect. Volume on my MP3 player goes to 40 and I generally keep it around 12. Also the right angle plug design helps prevent the wires from being damaged.
Great Earphones for my iPod Nano.......2007-11-01
I had given the ER6 earphones as a Christmas gift in 2006 to my son for his iPod (the ER6 was on his wish list) and he liked it so much I got a pair for myself. They are very good. They fit comfortably in the ear and really deliver a nice sound. I wish earphones had more bass but I think that's tough to do. They are vastly superior to the buds I got with the Nano and they never slip from the ears. While they keep out some of the noise they don't shut everything out - I think that's a good thing. If someone says something to me with them on I can still respond. It's a good product.
Leaves Bose QC 2s and 3s In The Dust!!.......2007-09-04
I tested these vs. a set of Bose QC2s and QC3s on several trans-Pacific flights.
The result? The Bose went back! The ER6 had more noise reduction and significantly for me much, much better music fidelity than the Bose. While the active noise-reduction of the Bose is excellent I found the isolating characteristics of the ER6s even better. You don't hear anything. Period.
While the Bose do have great noise-canceling they are quite poor in sound reproduction. The sound from my iPod was quite muddy and non-defined, The sound using the ER6 was very clear and sharp with solid, well-defined bass, treble and mid-range.
As other reviewers have stated it is imperative that you get a good "seal" when you insert them into your ear. When you do these earphones leave the Bose in the dust.
Product Description
The ER6 Isolator earphones were designed as a low-cost alternative to the ER4 series earphones. The ER?6s use a smaller, 2-flange eartip and a thinner, lighter-weight cord. Their compact size and weightlessness make them ideal for travel and personal listening. Although the ER-6 look something like normal earbuds, they're so much more. They are actually headphones that seal in the ear canal. They instantly provide up to 20dB sound insulation and deliver dynamic audio performance from the deep, low bass to crisp, clean highs.
