ATI Radeon Graphics Card HD2900XT.......2007-09-15
I bought it with the intention of using it. I need to upgrade my motherboard to include a 2nd PCI express slot and a more powerful power supply. So,I have it, but haven't used it yet. I don't feel like building another desktop PC from the case on up to accomodte the card in my Dell Dimension E521 just newly purchased this past July.
Great performance without breaking the bank.......2007-09-10
This card performs close to the high end Nvidia cards that cost close to $600. It's been great with a variety of titles I've tested on it at high resolution including Prey, Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes, Far Cry, Bioshock, Half Life 2, etc.
It's a great value as well since it ships with a code to get the upcoming Half Life 2 episode 2 box with Team Fortress and Portal.
Note that the card does put off a fair amount of heat while you are gaming so be sure to have good cooling in your system and the card does require a good power supply.

Don't listen to the other person. He wrote the same review for other ATI video cards on this website. Go ahead do some research you'll come across at least 3 ATI video cards. Never the less this card rulz. I'm posting this review after purchasing two HD 2900XT cards for my crossfire setup. I've used many ATI Radeon products in the past. My opinion is that the HD2900XT just does not measure up. Due to its limited hardware design (using shaders and not ROP to resolve AA), performances in games are poor with anti-aliasing and aniso enabled. It even lags behind my old X1900XTX setup in many cases. This is NOT what I expected.
Image quality is also sub par. ATI decided to blur the text and textures in games to "improve" anti-aliasing. If I wanted to see washed-out images and blurry text in my games, I would have used a 3-year old gaming console. I had higher expectations from ATI based on previous experiences. The HD 2900XT is a major let down.
The other issue I have is that AMD lied about the product features. On my HD 2900XT retail boxes, it is clearly stated that the product includes "UVD technology". I purchased the product after trusting the product description and specs provided by AMD-ATI. Well, AMD recently confirmed that UVD was not included in the HD 2900XT (they waited after the product was released to mention it). So, no dedicated hardware UVD as advertised on the box, bottom line, your CPU has to do all the work. False claims and deceptive practice, you bet. Well done AMD, you really fooled everyone!
AMD-ATI should recall the HD 2900XT immediately and provide cheated customers with a satisfactory replacement solution. How about a voucher from AMD allowing people to trade-in their flawed HD2900XT cards and receive the upcoming "fixed" product?
I think this whole R600 release is a complete fiasco. How can you trust a company like AMD? I really wanted to like the HD 2900XT. But after all these issues and lies about the product, I will no longer purchase anything from them. I just wish I had done more research before wasting my hard-earned money on this flawed product. Don't make the same mistake.
