No drivers available.......2005-01-25
I bought this mouse because I travel on business a lot. I openned the package and read the installation instructions that said insert the CD and follow the instructions on the screen but there was no CD! Went to Compaqs website and no driver is available there. Went to Micro Innovations website, they make the mouse for Compaq, and no driver available there either. Called MI tech support and was disconnected after holding 15 minutes. This product is completely unusable!

Great Joystick.......2007-11-26
I have had and used the ForceFeed Back 2 Joystick sence it First came out
and i have used it with Windows 98 and Windows XP and with all the Microsoft Flight Sim Games ie Combat Flight Sim 1, Flight Sim 2,Flight Sim 3,Flight Sim 98, Flight Sim 2000,Flight Sim 2004,plus more allways
worked great with all my Flight Sim Games,I bought my First ForceFeed Back 2 Joystick in 1999,and after useing it for almost two years I lost the Rudder Control on the Joystick, I called Microsoft and ask them where I could get it serviced and repaired, the person I talked to ask me for the serial # on the bottom of the joystick, after I gave her that she told me just to throw that one away, and that they would just send me a nother one free of charge, In two days I had a Brand new ForceFeed back 2 Joystick which I have been useing sence 11/28/01 with out no problum.
I know they have stoped making them now,But I have just bought A nother New one here on line today for a backup just in case this one I have ever
Crashs,so far I have been useing it now for six Years with out a Problam
I Have allways had good results with All my Microsoft Products.
In My Opinion the ForceFeed Back 2 Joystick is a great Product.
A little update for those running Vista.......2007-11-19
Hi all, I bought this joystick back when it was new (almost six years ago now) and I have to say that after so much abuse (mostly from the old Mech Warrior franchise) it still looks, feels, and plays just like it did out of the box. Kudos to Microsoft for creating something with so much staying power and that after three PCs has yet to need replacing from overuse or obsolescence.
Most of the pros and cons of the joystick have already been covered in reviews here already, though I would like to add that this joystick runs like a dream on Windows Vista Home Premium. I had lost my driver CD some time ago, though I gave plugging in the USB port a try and in a few seconds it was self-installed and ready to play. No searching, rebooting, or anything. A vast improvement it seems over the situation with XP (though personally I've never had any issues with XP compatibility.) Oh, and as for the gripping complaints, a small piece of black tape over either of the IR hand sensors on the front side of the stick will keep the feedback active regardless of hand position. This is definitely still my favorite gaming accessory for the PC.
Still truckin.......2007-04-02
I've had this joystick for oh 4 years perhaps, and it still runs. Considering microsoft stopped supporting this stick thats pretty good, i've used this in all the battlefield games, planetside, and with a little setup you'll be gtg. on a side note this is another of my belated reviews and this item is really hard to come by if you can.
force feedback controll issues.......2007-01-25
The problem with Windows XP and this joystick is not Windows XP. It's Microsoft hasn't seen fit to fix a software problem with the joystick. The driver/software that comes with the joy stick (that they don't support you to download the driver if you happen to lose it) has options installed in it. These options allow you to control the force feedback strength of the joy stick. However on Windows XP (using the joysticks software) you can change your force feed back strength and the first time you press the trigger button to test the force it is correct. The second time you test the force feed back strength the strength is back at max. There is no way to lower it. I go into the game and it kicks so hard I can hardly keep fire on my target. After a while this beast will wear your arm out (good motor in it) and when you get hit by another ship with full strength force feedback the whole thing goes crazy which again messes up your control. I'm disappointed because they have known about this issue for a while and have done nothing about it as I found by doing a search for Q321127. The problem could be fixed by tweaking their software and offering (us poor jokers who bought their joystick) a driver download or something but so far nada. I would have given this joystick a 5 but for the software because physically its and awesome joystick in my opinion. Also yes Windows XP does recognize this joystick with out their software but has no controls for the joystick's force feedback strength.
Great joystick!!!.......2006-10-31
Ive had this Joystick for about 5 years now (i dont remember exactly how long, but a couple months after it was on market), and its a great joystick!!. I used it with Windows ME at the beggining where i had to install drivers, but with windows XP i just plug it and use it, doesnt even need calibration. I've been abusing of it for about 5 years, and the only thing that im having trouble with is that the FOV move to the righ its a little hard, besides that, it works as well as the first day. I really recommend it.

Best combo available!.......2002-12-29
Microsoft is the publisher for both of these but dont let that fool ya. Mech is possibly one of the best book/game things ever created. Mech is a first person combat game that really kicks. The Sidewinder is an absolute must have for the dedicated gamer. The controlls are butifly laid out and most games are created to use this design. The fact that it is USB capable makes it good because almost every combuter nowadays has that type of port. The force feedback feature is great for more realistic gaming.
