Customer Reviews:
Decent keyboard and mouse.......2006-01-27
I have received this set as a gift and used it for a week.
Pros:
The thing works just fine, the general impression is very good - nice look, nice touch, precise mouse that works equally well with or without a pad. Very important (at least for me) detail: the layout of Insert, Delete, Home, End, PageUp and PageDown is standard unlike most other wireless keyboards. Never missesd a keystroke or a mouse click yet. Nice additional keys for web surfing, media player, and stand-by mode.
Cons (minor):
1. Since there are no lights for Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock on the keyboard, you have two options: having several additional icons in the right bottom corner of the screen (which seems annoying to me) and not having them at all.
2. The layout of F1 through F12 bottons is not standard. Instead of 3 groups, 4 keys each, you have 4 groups, 3 keys each. Not so big deal, but you will confuse F4 and F5 etc at first. Took me a couple of days to get used to. However, this is definitely lesser evil than non-standard Ins/Del/Home... layout, found in other wireless keyboards (see above)
Good Design. Mediocre Implementation.......2005-04-27
-- GOOD --
* Design. I like the sleek rounded look to the keyboard. On the back are legs that can swing out to adjust the level if you're going to be using it on a desk.
* Keypress. This was a major reason for me buying the keyboard. The keys benefit from laptop technology. They are firm, but don't have much travel so they feel more responsive - less typing effort.
* RF frequency means that the thing doesn't cut out if you lose line of sight, but the responsiveness tapers quickly at about 10 ft from the reciever. I think this distance should have been longer, but you need to be reasonably close to your monitor anyway.
* Reciever takes no batteries (Keyboard and Mouse do, obviously)
* Mouse is very precise.
* Hotkeys, if you load a driver. One is user-assignable. Personally I don't use 'em, but they're there for your surfing pleasure.
-- BAD --
* Another reviewer said that the mouse eats batteries like its rodent counterpart goes through a block of cheeze. This is probably because it doesn't havea a low power mode. I have another optical mouse that when I don't move it, dims its light. I bet this would save batteries. Not an issue for me since I have rechargeables. But poorly designed
* The mouse flashes alot through the side. It's distracting.
* The unit I bought is defective: the keyboard battery contacts are loose. But I should have expected that: I bought an open-box unit to save myself 2 bucks. (Update: New unit works GREAT!)
Update (one year later)
* The replacment unit worked great for a while. Then the mouse cut out and no amount of resets or new batteries can convince it to get back to work. The keyboard is still working great, so I guess in the end I am getting my money's worth.

It also includes LightScribe technology for personalized silkscreen-quality, laser-etched CD/DVD labels created right in the drive.
This desktop is powered by the 2.4 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ dual-core processor, which increases the efficiency and speed of the PC while running multiple programs and the latest multi-threaded software. Store more music, videos, and data on the roomy 320 GB Serial ATA hard drive, which offers fast transfer rates. It also comes loaded with 2 GB of RAM (which can be bumped up to 4 GB), an integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150 video/graphics card with 128 MB of dedicated video RAM, a wide variety of connection ports on both the front and rear of the box, and a 15-in-1 memory card reader that's compatible with today's most popular digital camera formats.
It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
- Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 X2 4400+ dual-core processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. It outperforms the highest-performing AMD Athlon 64 4000+ single-core processor on multi-tasking benchmarks by up to 30 percent. Dual-core technology is like having two processors working together, each one taking care of different applications, so power-users actually experience greater performance when multiple applications are running. Digital media enthusiasts will appreciate the enhancements while simultaneously working in high-definition video and photo editing and audio mixing programs. It includes such AMD features as HyperTransport Technology (which increases the communication between integrated circuits) and Enhanced Virus Protection.
This 2.3 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2000 MHz and each core offers a 512 KB L2 cache--for a 1 MB total. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
- Hard Drive: The huge 320 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
- Memory: The 2 GB of installed RAM (PC5300, 2 x 1 GB) is a good start, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and gaming software. It also offers a top-of-class 667 MHz speed. This desktop has a 4 GB maximum RAM capacity (4 x 1 GB). To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.
- DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 8x DVD-R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R, 8x DVD+RW, 16x DVD-R, 6x DVD-RW, 12x DVD-RAM, 40x CD-R, 32x CD-RW write speeds and 40x CD-ROM, and 16x DVD-ROM read speeds.
This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.
- Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with an HP multimedia keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections).
Video & Audio
This desktop features an integrated Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE graphics/video card with 128 MB of dedicated graphics memory. Windows Vista can also allocate up to 623 MB of total graphics memory from the system memory. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. It also offers an integrated audio card that can produce high definition surround sound configurable to 8 speakers.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
For expansion, this desktop has two PCI slots (one available), one PCI Express x1 slot (available), one PCI Express x16 slot (available), two 5.25-inch bays (one available), and three 3.5-inch bays (two available). It comes with a built-in floppy drive and the following external connectors:

- 2 line-in (front and rear)

Customer Reviews:
Great for the price, but a couple of problems.......2007-12-26
I have this exact model but didn't buy it from Amazon. Vista works fine, I haven't had any lockups. After installing some Earthlink software it now gives me a message that it has blocked some programs at startup. It lets you see the programs it didn't allow to run and allows you to run them but doesn't give you the option of allowing them to run automatically at startup. The only way to do that as far as I can tell is if Defender quarantines the program. No items show up in the allowed items list for you to "select". The procedure outlined in the help section doesn't seem to work. Someday I'll have someone more skilled in computer software look at it. Anyway that's a Vista thing not an HP issue. The problem I had was the bluetooth keyboard was not working properly. If the computer went to sleep, moving the mouse did not wake it up. When you got it to wake up, the mouse would not work unless you unplugged the bluetooth dongle in the back of the conputer. For a while it would reconnect if you pressed the "Connect" buttons on both devices. Well after a while all bluetooth functions stopped working completely. (Keyboard & Mouse) I determined that it was a hardware problem by connecting a matched set of Dell bluetooth items from a new Dell computer that I bought for work. Everything worked fine. Swapped back and forth, HP dead, Dell fine. Called for HP support. They asked so many questions and did so many things to my computer that had nothing to do with the problem, as the problem wasn't fixed. All I wanted was a new bluetooth dongle to try and even wanted to pay for it. HP tech support talked me into a remote session where they take control of the computer. BIG MISTAKE! He was going into the regedit file changing all kinds of numbers, deleting stuff from my statup folder, etc. I suppose he though he would speed up my computer, but I had so many problems after he messed with it I had to do a restore to a date two days before and everything worked fine again! Then I took the Bluetooth dongle to the dealer and he tried it in the demo computer. Didn't work! He gave me an extra one he had laying around, took it home and it works fine. I told the tech support person it worked fine with the Dell bluetooth hardware. They just don't seem to know when to give up on settings and software issues and start thinking that it could be a hardware problem. I have purchased 6 Dell computers and had heard they had great tech support. The reason I kept buying Dell is that I never needed tech support and none of the computers ever broke!
That said, the reason my last two computer purchases have been HP is because of price and size of the desktop. The Dell desktop boxes were just too big. The only small one had the cd-rom drive mounted vertically and I don't care for that. This box is so much smaller than the Dell. I keep it on the left side of my desk and smaller is better. Maybe the Dells give you more room inside for expansion but I won't need that. Also, Dell is a bit pricey nowadays. I just bought an HP 15.4" laptop that was loaded with features like 2GB mem. 2.2Gig Core 2 Duo, wireless N, + Bluetooth, Webcam, biometric reader, 1394 input, HDMI out, and many more cool features. I printed out the list and tried to customize a dell laptop and couldn't even come close on the price! Plus the HP has a two year warranty included. It' a little heavy though because it has the large battery. All in all I'd say HP is doing a great job recapturing market share in the PC world and they are doing it by offering a great product at a resonable price!
amazing.......2007-12-09
I JUST LOVE THIS COMPUTER ! IT'S VERY FAST,VERY QUIET AND IT HAS TONS OF MEMORY ! I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT OR WITH VISTA.WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!
Great Value.......2007-11-29
Value seems to be the common thread in many of the reviews-and I agree. This hp is an excellent choice for the general user--and with some simple mods just about anyone else except very demanding gamers who will need a much beefier system. I'm a bit on the fence with Vista-be warned it can be a little qirky. That aside--your getting an excellent computer for this price!!
I thought refurb meant re-tested.......2007-11-13
I have had a lot of success with refurbished products. I can live with a scratch or dent for something that is going to sit under a desk. I also enjoy the savings which is why I opted for a refurbed unit. The specs on this unit are great.
Out of the box the RJ-45 LAN network port did not work. I confirmed this by installing a separate LAN card in a free PCI slot which instantly connected to the internet. Fixing an on-board LAN port would not be simple, so I sent the unit back which the seller took with no questions. But it seems to me that a refurbished unit should have been tested. So to come from the factory a second time with this crucial component not working is pretty lame.
Kick butt computer but Vista sucks.......2007-11-09
This computer was everything I needed. It has a big storage for pics, videos and documents. The only thing I had to do was buy a new graphics card so I could play better games and hook up my lcd monitor. Everything on this computer is great except for Windows Vista. Many of the new features are nice and more efficent than XP but many programs freeze when they are running or if you are trying to download something. This has become an recuring problem for me. If you want to have the ultimate computer I recomend taking Vista off and puting XP on( atleast until the kinks are worked out).
