Amazon.com Review

The Logitech MX Air optical mouse tracks motion even after you lift it off the surface, making it great for home theater PC users and presentations. In the air, it works like a cross between a remote control and a wand as you simultaneously wave the mouse in all directions and press its buttons to navigate.

It sounds wieldy to use, but I was able to get the hang of it within a few minutes. Holding the mouse in my palm like a remote control, the cursor ably followed my hand movement but it got a little tricky trying to hone in on smaller icons and button selections. Another issue was I'd often catch myself in an awkward hand position while still needing the cursor to go in a certain direction. But with the freeze button, I could hold the cursor steady and recenter my hand into a more comfortable position.

For desktop use, optical sensitivity was comparable to other mice and picked up subtle movements, however the mouse did not have any side buttons that I am used to for back and forward browsing. The extra buttons (back, volume, play/pause) are placed in the middle of the mouse, which are easily accessible when you hold the mouse in the air, but not so much for desktop use because your palm sits directly over them. The SetPoint software can customize the buttons into functions that you may ordinarily use, such as copy and undo. I was also able to fine tune the cursor and scroll speed for even greater control.

The mouse definitely stands out on your desktop, its sleek black design might fool you into thinking it's something else, but upon touch the buttons light up to display each function. The shiny plastic casing doesn't feel cheap, but the smoothed look seems prone to scratches. The mouse also tracked up dirt pretty easily within a few days of use, however a cleaning cloth is provided. The smooth design is conspicuously missing a scroll wheel. That's because that section of the mouse is a touch panel sensor where you directly slide your finger up and down. It's a surprisingly comfortable and natural feel, and you start to wonder how you ever got by with wheels.

The rechargeable lithium ion battery typically provided about 20 hours of use. After placing the mouse onto the base charger, it took about two hours to reach a full charge. I was able to get a workable range of about 30 feet from the receiver before the signal went out. Overall, it's a nifty mouse that shows its stuff in the air, a convenient device for home theater PC's and couch browsing as well as a more versatile tool than a laser pointer in presentations. --Bradley Tran

5 out of 5 stars The ultimate mouse for entertainment.......2007-12-28

The Air Mouse does take some time to get used to. But when you're leaning back watching a movie, video or listening to music it's perfect. I like how Logitech put in the sound effect of a scrolling wheel when you sweep the scroll bar. One negative is scrolling when in freespace mode. Because of how you hold the mouse your thumb lays at the bottom of the bar instead of the center and you can't comfortably reach to scroll up.

Not sure what people are talking about but this is simple to use ... I got it an hour ago and didnt have any problems using it in the air right out of the box ... really amazing ... and by the way looks awesome

I did not purchase this item but got it from a friend who has been working on the technology that supports this and similar devices. I had been waiting for a demo for some time because I have been experiencing carpal tunnel syndrome as a result of using a desk mouse. When I first got it in my hand I was all over the place but once I settled down and got oriented I discovered that it was effortless. I can use it in any spacial orientation, which reduces fatigue and strain, and I can use it equally well in both hands. The scroll function is good but the other buttons down the center force you to readjust your grip. I have already recommended the product to patients who suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome or other arthritic diseases of the hands or wrist. Great job Logitech! Hope to see more products like this in the near future.

5 out of 5 stars Great for home theater usage.......2007-10-13

This is not recommended for desktop home PC for it is expensive, but perfect if you have a PC connected to your Plasma/LCD as part of your home theater set up. You can control your movies from your couch.
Very smooth and accurate, though need getting used to when using it it in the air

4 out of 5 stars A mouse that needs muscle memory.......2007-10-13

Once your muscles adapt to this cordless air mouse that strongly reminds me of the Wii gaming platform, you begin to feel more comfortable in navigating the cursor to where you intend it to go. This, in itself, requires a learning curve approaching an hour if ease of functionality is the requirement for success. I couldn't help remembering the very first time that I used a mouse and the similar problems I had. My sense of irony makes me wonder if this is indeed progress? Once muscle memory has been invoked, the centering issue comes into play. There is almost invariably an awkward moment at the end of a hand movement where your hand position makes it impossible to move the cursor to its goal in one fluid motion. It is called recentering and it's annoying. This is the second hour of the learning curve. Muscle memory is involved here, as well. You master this in time, but once again I asked myself, is this progress?

I've become more adept with time and I assume that will continue. I can see how this makes a splendid mouse for multimedia presentations and for various entertainment media. If your needs are there, this mouse is easily recommended. For all other purposes, it may be an indulgence. That isn't necessarily bad. Since the mouse has grown on me as I've gotten better at using it, I recommend it with the proviso that you carefully decide what you want it for before making your decision.

Wavit 3D PC remote for the Internet

    Product Description

The Wavit is a remote control for controlling your TV, PC, movies, and Internet from your sofa. It comes with a Never-Look-At-Your-Remote! attitude. It is operable with one hand, and has vibration feedback. The key to its simplicity is its DirectPoint feature: Just point the remote at the screen and the Windows cursor will appear exactly where you point, stabilized to compensate for shaky hands. But it does much more than that because it accurately tracks other motions and actions as well. A twist of the wrist, for example, can summon a web page, change the volume control, or FF/REW a movie. A short push/pull can zoom into or out of web pages or photos. It is magnificently intuitive to use, and is meant to simplify the 10-foot TV navigation experience in the living room, in much the same way that the Mouse has vastly simplified the 2-foot PC interface. The Wavit can also learn IR codes easily and, with its non-directional RF communication, is ready to make today's IR remotes nearly obsolete. Its sleek simplicity hides the utilitarian fact that it replaces the remote control clutter found in many living rooms today. The Wavit is ideal for any consumer who has just invested in a large screen TV and who would now like to effortlessly enjoy and navigate entertainment content ranging from showing off your digital photos, your home movies, your MP3 song collection, and recorded movies, to going online to play movies, casual games, online music, get the news and weather, or to do some window/sofa shopping. And all the while only looking at the large TV screen, not the remote. The Wavit is great for controlling a Windows XP, Media Center, or Vista PC from the lean-back comfort of your living-room sofa. However, the BEST thing about the Wavit may very well be that it comes with its own online user interface to allow for easy and quick access to 1000's of free online Movies, Games, and Music.

4 out of 5 stars Living rooom freedom.......2007-10-26

I have been fortunate enough to be one of the early adopters of this innovative gadget that has allowed me to take my digital experience to a new level. After I decided to build a media center PC and connect it to my big screen TV, I was in the market looking for a wireless mouse that will not only replace my mouse but will also work in a way to make my on-screen browsing experience much simpler and intuitive. When I came across this WavIt, I realized unlike a wireless mouse it gave me a 3-D navigation where I can zoom in and out of web pages, and navigate back and forth with just a twist. I could increase the volume with a twist and scroll up and down with a flip. A flip and twist did almost everything I wanted to navigate my media center PC.
The installation was a breeze but it did take me a while to get used to this free floating navigation tool before I could get a steady pointer. The smartpoint feature in WavIt was just the one I needed. After I got used to it, I calibrated the WavIt to suit my navigation style and once everything was set, there was no turning back. I love the feature where it detects that your cursor is moving out of the viewing area and gives a small vibration to let you know.
I could also replace my TV remote with this WavIt but I am yet to get to that piece of the feature set. The fact that I could individually program every button on WavIt to a specific function makes this highly configurable. I have programmed one button to close any application, one to zoom in and out, and one to scroll up and down. Its so cool...
I would highly recommend this to anyone trying to control a media PC in the living room with a mouse. WavIt will give you whole new experience of controlling your media center PC.

4 out of 5 stars WaveIT - the future remote!.......2007-10-08

I first saw information about this item in the local San Jose newspaper back in January 2007 and already at that time,I thought it sounded like a cool device - A kind of improved Wii for the livingroom.
I purchased the device 3 weeks go and I must say, I have not been disappointed.
The delivery and installation went very smooth (only drawback is that it takes some time to load the device once the pc is restarted) and within a few minutes I was up and running. The best features is the control of the internet (and there are great links to movie sites on ThinkOptics web), mediacenter and also the gaming controls.
It is just great fun sitting in the sofa and playing WOW on a 42" screen :-)
