great fingerprint security and wireless mouse kit.......2007-11-19
I gave this kit a four only because the scroll wheel on the mouse does not have detents; it rolls way to freely without clicks which makes it hard to control at times. For example, a when trying to scroll through a drop down list, the lack of a clicking feature causes you to jump several selections at a time. the mouse is rather large but it is comfortable for me. The 5 buttons are programmable and positioned ergonomically well.
The fingerprint reader is great added security, from what I understand it is not bullit proof security but I guess if someone really wants to steal my data they will get it somehow regardless. This is secure enough for me and functions very well. It does not inherently work with firefox web browser but there are extensions that make it work.
The finger print reader is the receiver for the wireless mouse. I've found the the batteries last a very long time in the mouse; six months or more and I use it every day.
I recommend this kit.
My opinion has changed..........2007-11-16
I once rated the fingerprint reader very highly....when I was running IE6. Now, with Internet Explorer 7 it plainly does not work. It will crash the app every time. MS sent out an updated driver that fixed the problem only on IE6, so until they decide to fix the problem, I'm stuck with a glowing red paperweight. Another issue that I have is that it doesn't work with other browsers. Another way MS can monopolize the market.
On the mouse end, it's definately a good product. Accurate and quick. The ONLY change I would make is some sort of low battery indicator. When the batteries run out, it just stops working without warning.
As of this review, there are no drivers that will allow the reader to work with IE7.
doesn't work with all the programs.......2007-08-23
When I saw this product on amazon, I really liked it, more so for the price. However, I hardly use the fingerprint reader now. Reason: it doesn't work with Windows logon*, MSN messenger and Firefox.... oh did I tell you that Windows and MSN messenger were also made by Microsoft?
*I can log on to windows using fingerprint reader when I first start the computer, but not when login screen appears after a screensaver. I have an IBM laptop with a fingerprint reader which doesn't have the same problem
Unreliable, Problems with security and info.......2006-06-21
I have this reader and the APC Bio-something. And the APC is sooo much better. I find myself teaching this reader my password 9 times out of 10, and using it only shortly after. Perhaps a software issue. Either way, you shouldn't have to think about it. The APC, I am never worrying about...I know it's there and ready. Too late to return this - but beware.
Nifty gadget w/excellent mouse.......2006-02-16
First off, let me say that the price is more than worth it just for the mouse (I got mine for about $35). It has side scrolling, which was new for me, and really nice. The other great thing are the programmable thumb-side buttons, which I have set for Back/Forward--really handy for web surfing. It's a comfortable fit for the average hand. The only weird part, if you're used to an older scrolling mouse, is that the scroll button scrolles smooth (no bumps as you move the wheel), which is something I'll have to get used to. Overall, a great mouse.
As for the fingerprint reader, I think it's a big help. There are plenty of password sites that I rarely use and have a difficult time remembering the password/username for. The reader is great for those, along with other unimportant sites (NOT for sites that require better security measures, i.e. sites that do financial transactions, bank, etc.) While it is a great time saver, there are a couple of downsides:
1) If you forget your password(s) and the reader malfunctions somewhere down the road, I hope you have a REALLY good memory.
2) It only works for Internet Explorer, so all you Firefox, Opera, Safari, Netscape, etc. users are out of luck.
On the whole, the package is a great deal, if you can find it near the price I did.

Great mouse.......2007-10-18
Love the mouse, works fine, the fingerprint scaner is more of a toy than something you need, but it was less money than the model without. Mouse is comfortable and has extra buttons that work as expected.

Great idea, but needs work..........2007-02-02
A little disappointed that a company as technologically advanced as Microsoft didn't put more thought into the software side of this. There is definately better password management software out there, albeit nothing with the security of biometrics.
I use this every day in my office and the mouse and fingerprint reader work perfectly. However, and this is a big however, the password manager software is below average at best. The only way to edit passwords is through IE, and deleting a "quick link" is next to impossible (at least, I haven't found a way). I was also hoping to be able to open a list of all logon info that the software stores for documentation and editing. This isn't possible either so if you don't remember your credentials, you're SOL. This is also a discredit to people like me that change their passwords every couple of months.
Also, no low battery warning for the mouse (which I actually found out today). While the batteries lasted for well over a year for 50 hours a week, the mouse just stops working when the batteries are low, no warning, nothing. Talk about running around frantically looking for AA's when you have work to do!
Domain users cannot use fingerprint reader to logon to their computer. This function works when not logging into a domain, though.
One more beef for IE 7 users, the fingerprint reader is SUPER slow! It take about 30 seconds to open a quicklink. When using IE 6 I never had this problem.
Again, a decent product with great security, but please upgrade the software!!!

Great motherboard!.......2007-12-16
Great product. Solid performance. No issues at all. Paired with AM2 A64 X2 4800+ and 6000+ and 2GB OCZ Platinum R2 800Mhz RAM flawlessly. Front panel connector configuration is INTEL compliant so be aware. Old standard front panel sound configuration also supported although I could not get it to work (any ideas are welcome). Nevertheless, it's the best integrated sound I've come across. Great high definition sound! GigaLAN, SATA2 and 4 DDR2 slots are a plus too.
EXCELLENT BOARD FOR FEW BUCKS.......2007-10-09
I've bought this board for many reasons, the first of them was 4 ddr2 800 slots, the second one was the pcie 16x port, 3 PCI (one of them in orange optimized for comunication cards), sata2, and 7.1 integrated audio card and 10 usb ports... the only lack of this board is a firewire port! runs perfect with the rest of my components an AMD64 X2 4400+ 2GB OCZ PC6400 HD seagate sata2 160GB, DVD-RW and a eVGA 7600GT card! (be carefull... this board NOT COMES with integrated video card!)
Other good thing was that the board comes with bios revision 3.0 and recognize all hardware without errors in dual boot with XP SP2 and vista U x86, but just to be sure I've flashed to bios revision 3.3 without and trouble! (using MSI live update), also MSI includes 2 cd drivers with xp and vista support, great!
