review of PC power source.......2007-05-16
The product arrived in a timely manner and once installed worked very well. The only problem i encountered was it did not fit precisely into my PC. i have an older SONY VAIO and the screw holes did not match up. i had to drill holes in the pc housing to mate up the holes on the power source. also the cord was in a diferent spot so the back cover doesn't fit back on the PC. If you have an older pc you mayhave the same problem with fit up.. however it was relatively inexpensive and my pc works once again.
Runs hot, short life.......2006-11-14
I installed this power supply as a replacement from Gateway. From the moment I installed it, it did not cool sufficiently. Within a year it had failed completely.

What a great power supply!!!I removed my old defective unit and replaced it with StarTech.com's unit, What a difference in quality. The StarTech unit weighed a least 1 to 2 lbs more than the unit I removed... There is no doubt in my mind the StarTech.com makes great products.

This product has exceeded my expectations. I never usually purchase cheap power supply's but because I really don't care about this pc I gave it a try. It fit Nice and snug into my HP Pavilion, the only downside is that the slot to plug in the power cord is a little large it may sit on the frame of the computer. But its not a problem, when you screw it in it will slightly bend that piece of frame outwards allowing to fit snug. This power supply is very quite, I have seen many comments on cheap power supply's stating that their extremely loud. Also my pregnant wife threw up all over it and it still works. I know it sounds gross but it does still work!

This is no modern power supply unit........2007-04-13
hi. well, you can see the compUSA name on the 500 watt psu box, & if u call their tech support, you'll find 2 main things, which should turn u away from thinking of this psu as a modern unit. 1/ is that it has no SATA cable, which is used for contemporary hard drives, and 2/ is that it only has a 20 pin main power connector, whereas most modern motherboards have 20+4 pin connector, which, in appearance, is a 24 pin connector, tho it's always referred to as 20+4 pin main connector. So, for modern purposes, this unit is really no good. CompUSA makes a modern psu like this, for $10. cheaper, that would satisfy a modern psu shopper. This unit is not recommended.
