Apple Mighty Mouse Wireless Kit

Product Description

The Mighty Mouse's tracking engine is based on powerful laser technology that delivers 20 times the performance of standard optical tracking, giving you more accuracy and responsiveness on more surfaces. It works just as well on your office desk as it does on a table at your favorite coffee spot without a mousepad. The Might Mouse combines the capability of a multibutton mouse with Apple's signature top-shell design for both form and function. Mighty Mouse's Scroll Ball features miniature sensors that allow you to manipulate what appears on your screen merely by moving your finger. The 360-degrees scrolling perfectly positions to roll smoothly under just one finger. Touch-sensitive technology under Mighty Mouse's seamless top shell detect where you're clicking, transforming your sleek, one-button mouse into a two-button wonder. Pan images in iPhoto, view timelines in iMovie HD and Final Cut Pro, traverse bars in GarageBand and Logic Pro while sipping your morning cup of coffee or typing. Pre-programmed to launch Dashboard, Mighty Mouse's side buttons show you all your open windows in Expose with a squeeze. Mac OS X gives you the capability to choose any application from the intuitive System Preference pane.

4 out of 5 stars Good mouse, with some caveats..........2007-12-30

Overall, this is a pretty darned good mouse. It features excellent tracking, it is thankfully minimalistic (unlike many mice that have so many buttons it's nearly impossible to figure out how to use the bloody thing), and has that wonderful mini-trackball, which is the best possible way to navigate webpages or large displays (such as Photoshop). Bluetooth pairing with my iMac was a piece of cake, and mouse sensitivity and speed is excellent. Stylistically, it is a great looking mouse -- typical Jonathan Ives stuff.

On the downside, the biggest complaint I have about the mouse is that the right click function is slightly spotty for some reason (right-clicks register maybe 95% of the time), and the shape is not ergonomic (though not bad in the hand). I'd prefer an Apple ergonomic mouse with the same minimalist configuration.

4 out of 5 stars So far, so good.......2007-12-28

This was a Christmas gift for my fiance. She has only been using it for couple of days, but she really likes it. From what I have seen of this product it seems like a really good product. I would recommend it to anyone with a Mac that is looking for a bluetooth mouse.

4 out of 5 stars Apple Wireless Mouse.......2007-12-24

Pleasing design and well made, but lacks some of the sensitivity found in Logitech and Microsoft wireless mice.

4 out of 5 stars Decent Mouse but way too Expensive........2007-12-23

The mouse is pretty good, and I've had no problems with it so far. I got it just for fun, as I normally use a Logitech VX Revolution with my Macbook Pro. The Wireless MM responds very well, and because it is laser, works on a variety of surfaces including my leg and the carpet. One thing that's a bit annoying is the squeeze buttons - they aren't very practical. Although I use it for showing off, you normally wouldn't use it because it requires you to reposition your hand in order to use it. Coming from the VX Revo., I'd like to see a back/forward button, but I guess that would detract from the simplicity of this mouse. The mouse can operate on a single AA battery, to lighten the load when traveling, although I don't think this makes a big difference. I've had it for about a month now and have not had a problem with the scroll ball getting dirty.

5 out of 5 stars Mighty alright!.......2007-12-21

I really enjoy using this mouse! It performs as good as it looks. It has programmable functions and I think that's awesome. Loving the wireless!

4 out of 5 stars Good mouse, some quirks........2007-12-08

The mighty mouse is an interesting mouse that takes some getting used to, but is a good choice because of its scroll ball. The scroll ball allows you to scroll quickly and accurately, not just vertically and horizontally, but at any angle. This is handy when working in applications like Photoshop, and or on computers with smaller screens. I much prefer the scroll ball to scroll wheels, even ones that allow you to scroll horizontally. It offers enough buttons for most users, and is good for left-handed users.

The mouse has a few quirks which keep me from giving it a 5. First, the scroll ball will get dirty periodically, causing it to stop scrolling in one or more directions. This is an annoyance, but can also be fixed easily by wiping the ball with rubbing alcohol. Second, the right click is a little counterintuitive and takes some getting used to. A right click will only register if no fingers are touching the left side of the mouse. This means you must lift your left finger while right clicking. You do get used to it though, so it's not a huge issue, and on the plus side, it keeps inexperienced computer users from right-clicking accidentally.

I would recommend this mouse to left handed users, and for users who are looking for a simple mouse and don't mind cleaning it occasionally.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointingly Cheap.......2007-12-04

I know that real mice are supposed to squeak, but I did not expect the Mighty Mouse to make any noise at all. Much to my chagrin, it sounds like a cheap, no-name mouse that needs a good dousing of WD-40. The attached wire is stiff, and hampers the free movement of the mouse. Unfortunately, the only benefit to the wireless Mighty Mouse is that it's cordless. In contrast, the new Apple keyboard is a design delight, and well worth the cost. Go with a good-quality Logitech or Microsoft mouse instead.

5 out of 5 stars It's come to save the day!.......2007-12-02

I've finally got my hands on one of these things and I love it. It's got more features than the old mouse but the only one I'm really using is the scroll button. For this alone I'm giving it the highest marks. It just makes scrolling through documents and selecting menu items breeze. Unlike the traditional scroll wheel that only lets you move vertically, it is more like a track ball that allows you to move in any direction: vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Along with the scroll button, it seems to have four additional buttons: two on the top and two on the sides. I found these to be unnecessary and happily discovered that I could disable them in OS X, in effect turning it back into a one-button mouse with a cool scroll button.

Frankly, I've never understood the frustration some Windows users of two-button mice have with the Mac's one-button mice. I've always found the two-button mice frustrating and more difficult to use, always having to stop and think about which button to push if I wanted to simply click on a link. With a one-button mouse, there is only one button to push and nothing to think about. In addition, two-button mice tend to have small buttons that are jammed next to each other. This made it easy to accidently push the wrong button. The Windows' two-button mice, like the Windows operating system, are just not intuitive and not easy to use. To say that a one-button mouse is less user friendly defies logic and common sense. But it does give one some insight into the minds of Windows users: that they use Windows and its products not by choice but by habit. Seasoned Windows users who are used to doing back-flips in order to complete tasks in Windows (and who pat themselves on the back for such achievements) are not used to the simplicity of Apple products and tend to think too much.

Anyway, with the arrival of the Mighty Mouse, there is something for everyone. The mouse's ability to be programmed allows it to function as a one-button or a multi-button mouse. And after using its scroll button, you'll never be able to live without it.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible product.......2007-11-22

This is simply an awful product. Even the reviews on the MAC website concur with this opinion.

The problems are numerous: the cord is too short, the right-click button is difficult to consistently find/use, the scroll button broke after two months, and the two side buttons have NO USE whatsoever. In fact, the two side buttons take so much effort to press, I only used them a couple days because my wrist was becoming sore.

This is a product that should be avoided at all costs. The scroll button breaking issue has been reported by numerous users on reviews here and on MAC - this is not a fluke. I have nothing good to say about this product except that it looks nice.... but I'd take an ugly functional mouse over a pretty poorly-designed mouse any day.

5 out of 5 stars I love the mouse!.......2007-11-21

This mouse does not look as hi-tech and ergonomic as some products from Logitech, Kensington, or Microsoft, but this is the best mouse that I ever used. I actually also bought a bluetooth model for my MacBook Pro.

Product Description

Bad memory can cause anything from annoying error messages to complete system failures. Why risk it with cheap "mystery" memory? When you buy memory from Crucial, you're buying the same high-quality memory that leading computer manufacturers install in the systems they sell. In fact, because Crucial is a division of Micron, one of the world's largest DRAM manufacturers, chances are good that you have their memory in your system right now. While the "other guys" might claim to manufacture memory, they really just assemble modules out of chips made by someone else. Some don't have first-class assembly procedures, and some even use chips that failed to meet computer manufacturer's stringent testing requirements. Crucial memory goes through much more rigorous testing procedures than many other brands of memory. Some memory assemblers choose to accept a certain "defect rate" because it's cheaper to deal with returns than to test every part they sell. That may help their bottom line, but it's sure a pain in the neck if you're one of the customers who ends up with a bad module. That's why Crucial thoroughly tests EVERY module they sell and put their name only on the ones that meet their strict standards. You might expect memory this good to cost a lot more, but you'd be wrong. As an online memory upgrade provider selling directly from the manufacturer, Crucial memory is often available at lower prices than lower-quality modules.

4 out of 5 stars Works!.......2007-06-26

I just updated my memory on my new mac mini 1.66 from 516 MB to 2 GB. Of course the Crucial memory is a lot cheaper than buying it installed. (Half when I bought.) I found the instructions for breaking the machine apart and replacing the memory here: [...]. I'm not a computer repair type person, and I had to do the installation twice. Be warned that it's not as simple as slipping the cover off, taking out the old memory boards, and installing the new. No, after taking the cover off, you have to remove an antenna, unplug a cable, unscrew 4 screws and lift off the CD drive, then the memory location is exposed. Also, be careful to seat the new boards fully. That was my problem. After my first attempt my computer registered only 1 GB, when I'd installed 2 GB. I started over, reseated the two boards and put the machine back together and booted and I had 2 GB! The instructions say use a putty knife to pry the cover off but I used a thin-bladed dinner knife. Worked fine. Don't do one side then the other; instead slip the knife in one side and move it around an inch or two at a time to the other side. You also need a jeweler's phillips head, and needle nose pliers and flashlight helped. All stuff I had at home. I used a touch of dry bar soap to attach the screws to the phillips head while lowering them back in to their grooves. I give the product 4 stars for now. After using it a while, I'll know if it's a 5. Good luck!
