Customer Reviews:
great listening & microphone.......2007-09-16
I am using the 550DSP headset daily. I used the microphone for speech recognition and for Skype calls. It's great! I watch DVDs with the headphones and I am very satisfied. They are comfortable, durable, and the sound quality is excellent.
Best headset I've ever owned.......2007-07-19
When this baby arrived, I was unsure of it's quality. Much lihghter than the DSP500, and a little smaller. But once I plugged it in, all worries vanished.
This unit has better everything:
Audio output
sound quality
freq response ( very important to me as I am very Hard of hearing)
Wearable all day with no neck pressure.
I would recommend this to everyone!!
Wife loves it for VOIP overseas. She can spend hours on the line now without aches.
Buy it! period.
Uncomfortable? Nonsense!.......2007-06-19
This is a great product. Amazing quality and very comfortable for my head (which is of the smaller size). My only complaint is that the volume remote attached to the cord does not effect the Mac version of Skype. This is Skype's fault, as they dont have independent audio controls for the program.
Other than that, this is a great headset and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a Skype/gaming headset.
Should be considered a torture device.......2007-05-30
This headset is SO UNCOMFORTABLE that I can't wear them for more than 5 minutes. Come on, who makes square ear pads?? Plus, the inside of each ear pad has solid, hard plastic that presses against your ears. Sure, the microphone works great but the only thing you'll be able to record are the sounds of your screams from the shear discomfort of wearing these.
Avoid at all costs!
Great headphones for gaming and speech recognition.......2007-05-07
I sit about 4 or 5 feet from a window air conditioner and it takes a really good microphone to filter out that background noise. I originally purchased Icemat Siberia Headset (Black) but the microphone didn't work well for speech recognition. The microphone on this headset works extremely well. Also, the headset is very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I am very pleased with Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 9 and this headset. I'm using it right now to write this review, or should I say "talk" this review.
The Icemat USB headset really slowed my computer down while gaming. I am very happy to report that this headset does not or if it does it's not enough to be noticeable.
Okay now for a couple of very minor complaints. Firstly, the headset didn't come with any software, I had to download the software from their website. Which is okay I guess, but as much money as these cost the software should be included. Lastly, the headset is very light weight. That's one reason why you can wear them so long. But they seem a little flimsy. All in all, this is the nicest headset I've ever used.

Good headset!.......2006-12-28
I've been using this headset for about 4 months now, and am very pleased with it except the part where my I start getting headache after about 2 hours of gaming, which is not a completely bad thing, just forces me to take a small break and let my eyes rest for a little.
Also this headset, when plugged in, blocks all other audio devices. In order to put the sound to my speakers I have to unplug the headset and change prefs to use my mobo surround sound. I'm pretty positive that this happens because the headset is using a USB interface, and there is some kind of conflict between the audio drivers... hopefully plantronics will release a patch for it ... sometime ... hopefully...
Software is pretty worthless, but have to have it in order to have good quality sound.
Headset is also a bit pricy, but justifies the sound quality!
Not so great..........2006-11-28
This headset is somewhat uncomfortable, you can't adjust it very much, the earpieces don't swivel enough. There's an odd plastic piece at the top that holds the two headphone speakers apart, which I think was added for comfort, but actually just makes it harder to adjust.
The sound quality is okay, but not what I would expect out of a $120 headset (at Fry's, but then I found it for $60 on NewEgg, which is more reasonable for the quality).
It also craps out on me occassionally. When I opened the package, the insert said I might have to "restart the application" whenever the headsets stop working. You don't need to install the application, which you download online only, if you're using a Mac. The Plantronics website said, Macs will work without installing anything. The second time I tried plugging my headset into my Powerbook, it worked, but when I opened GarageBand, it quit working, and I had to unplug and replug it in again to get it to work.
This would have been fine if this was all. However, every time I plug it in, I have to go to System Preferences and select the headset for my audio and/or mic input. It doesn't do it automatically. :-(
Sound and recording quality good.......2006-11-14
I just got one of these and the sound quality -- both for playing back and recording -- is leagues ahead of the cheapy little headset I was previously using.
The size isn't ideal for travel, but the results are great.
I plugged the USB cable into my PowerBook, and it worked instantly. Nice job!

Amazon.com Product Description
Speck Products' Mini SkinTight iPod skins protect your iPod mini from scratches and bumps, so you can enjoy your favorite music on the move without damaging your music player. iPod skins are made of odor-free Dynaflex, a strong, soft, rubbery polymer that feels comfortable and secure in the hand. In addition, the skin preserves the mini's most notable feature--its diminutive size--unlike much of the clunky competition. To apply, simply stretch one of the skins over your iPod mini from the skin's bottom opening. Listeners can easily access the headphone jack, FireWire port, and hold switch thanks to the skin's multiple cutouts. This triple pack of iPod mini skins comes with a trio of different-colored skins: one clear, one pink, and one blue. The pack also includes a single removable lanyard (strap) so you can easily wear your iPod mini around your neck.
What's in the Box
One clear skin, one pink skin, one blue skin, lanyard, data sheet.

No Screen Protection.......2005-05-18
First off, the picture on Amazon doesn't match the actual colors you will get! So be careful. You DO NOT get the green colored skin that is in the picture. Also, you cannot have the skin on and be able to use you ipod belt clip. How stupid is it have a strap that attaches to the skin? Am I going to hang my ipod around my neck??? Not all of us ipod users are teenagers in highschool.
The skin does not have a screen protector either. Great! So now, all I have is an ipod with a skin, in the wrong color, that is now too bulky, cannot be attached to my jeans or running shorts ( but I can wear it around my neck!!!) , and will still have a screen that gets scratched.
Don't buy it. Try something else.
Don't buy this........2005-02-24
These are not skin tight. They add almost 1/2 an inch to the size of the iPod in all directions. They do not protect the screen. They are too grippy, so if you pull it out of your pocket, your keys, papers, and everything else comes with it. The only color that looks any good is the color that matches your iPod. It's not worth $20. Only buy these if you have a bad habbit of dropping you iPod mini on hard floors, otherwise, don't!
Shouldn't it protect your screen?.......2005-01-26
I almost bought this product because it sounded ideal -- I agree that having a bulky case for an iPod mini completely defeats the purpose of getting a mini. By the time you wrap it in a nice, big leather case, it's almost as big as a regular iPod. So this seemed perfect. Until I heard that it doesn't actually protect your screen -- just the metal body of the iPod.
The body of my iPod will be fine with a few scratches: It doesn't scratch that easily, it can be polished to look new, and having scratches doesn't interfere with functionality. However, the screen is kinda easily scuffed -- to the point that after a lot of wear and tear it can be hard to see through (quite aggravating and not as easy to polish as the metal body). So what's the point of a cover that doesn't cover the most important part?
Most of these "skins" -- often just glorified stickers or colorforms, but in the case of the Speck Products SkinTight Mini iPod Skin at least it is a strong "case" or body-wrap or sleeve, as these things are called -- just ignore the screen. Worst of all, the product descriptions never mention the lack of screen protection.
However, you can buy separate screen protectors.... so combine a screen protector or glare-reducer with an iPod mini skin or sleeve and you'll have full protection. Or you can try something like the TrendyGeek Pod Shield Mini or the GSM Pod Shield Mini ("iPod Invisible Scratch Protection")... colorform-type pieces of plastic that protect the screen and back of the iPod but not much else. I might get the latter, since the screen is my primary concern and I'm cheap (well, if you consider dropping around ten bucks for a clear sticker-type-thing cheap; we'll see which one comes with free Amazon shipping).
Also, iSkin Mini ("Ghost"-colored glow-in-the-dark Apple iPod Mini Protector) protects your entire iPod (although it'll cover up your iPod mini's cool colored-metal design) and the Agent 18 Mini Shield (iPod mini cover) looks quite promising as it offers full protection (both of these cost a bit more than the simpler skins and screen protectors). Regrettably, not many Amazon customer reviews have been written for all of these products (at the time of this writing), so making a site-unseen Internet purchase will involve a little risk.
Actually, it's a real shame that Apple didn't make the iPods more scratch-resistant to begin with. Or include a cover. Forcing people to pay ten to fifty bucks for an iPod cover after shelling out hundreds for an iPod is cruel to the customer and will not engender long-term loyalty. But the iPod is so scratch prone that it can't survive for a long time without a scratch protector.
