The Netfront HTML browser gives you a complete mobile Web experience.

Memory Stick Micro storage media makes it easy to take all your media with you.

A 2-megapixel camera lets you snap quality pictures while you're on the go.
Design
The Z710i's 262,144-color, 176 x 220 display is housed under the front cover while the outside sports a supplementary 128 x 128 monochrome display that can display time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The 2.0 megapixel camera is housed on the front cover as well. Because the Z710i uses an internal antenna, there's nothing to snag or break off, while a five-way button just above the dial pad is used to control most of the phone's menus and features. Up/down buttons on the left side of the phone can be used for quick volume control and menu navigation. Meanwhile, a unique key lock switch is located on right side of the phone, while USB data and charging ports, as well as a headset port, are located on the phone's bottom edge. A slot is also provided for Memory Stick Micro storage media.

Calling Features
The Z710i's phone book and 10 MB of memory can hold up to 1000 contacts with multiple entries per contact. A call list remembers your most recent missed, received and dialed calls. The phone's voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. The phone also features a speakerphone for easy, hands-free talking. In addition to a vibrating alert, the phone supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3- and AAC-format ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. There's even a bundled application that lets you mix your own ringtones with up to 16 tracks. Picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. Similarly, a ringer ID lets you assign ringtones to callers. Lastly, users of Bluetooth headsets will find perfect compatibility with the Z710i's Bluetooth radio.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The Z710i has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging is also supported and the phone ships with a built-in email client.

Getting on the Internet is easy with the Z710i, as it supports the GPRS protocol, as well as EDGE high speed data. When used the phone's USB or Bluetooth data capabilities, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. Enjoy a full-featured mobile Web browsing experience, too, with the integrated Netfront browser, which supports HTML.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the Z710i including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock with a timer and stopwatch. Sony Ericsson Sync Station software lets you easily synchronize your Microsoft Outlook calendar, contacts, notes and tasks with your phone.

Imaging and Entertainment
The Z710i was designed for serious fun. The built-in 2.0 megapixel camera captures stills and video--and playback of video or still pictures is only limited to the memory card size. If you run out of room, don't worry--just drop another memory card into the Z710i's built-in memory card slot. Meanwhile, the Z710i media player handles a number of different music file formats, such as MP3, AAC, AAC+, and eAAC+. Transfer tracks from your CDs via your computer to your phone. There's even an integrated FM radio for listening to your favorite stations on the go.

Java support is built into the Z710i, making it a powerful gaming companion for both online and offline games. The Z710i also sports an airplane mode feature, which allows you to safely use the non-wireless functions of a phone (such as music, games or organizer functions) on an airplane during flight.

Vital Statistics
The Sony-Ericsson Z710i weighs 3.56 ounces and measures 3.46 x 1.89 x 0.96 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 10 hours of digital talk time, and up to 350 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 frequencies. Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars a good phone, but there are some flaws..........2007-11-18

hello readers, in this product review, i'm gonna talk about the sony ericsson z710i. so i'll try my best to break it down and such. here i go...

first and foremost, this phone operates under the GSM networks, such as tmobile and at & t (cingular). so those who want to bring this to sprint or verizon will have no such luck.

secondly, if you look at the official product review, it would likely mention that it comes with a 512mb memory card. unfortunately, it's just not true. as i comes with a 64mb card. if you read other reviews, you would likely know of this. if not, well now you know.

for some odd reason, the outer screen of the phone isn't colored, but maybe sony has a method for it's madness, perhaps?

now, i can't always bash this phone for it's shortcomings, as it does have some redeeming qualities:

appearance- i admit, one major reason i got this puppy was cause it's a pretty looking phone. the black/grey like color with the silver trim is quite a sight to behold. when you open it up, the buttons light up in a nice blue color, and

aesthetics- (did i spell it right?) as for how the phone feels on your hands? well it is a bit thick, even by today's slim as a slice of paper standards. but for users who have dealt with sony ericsson phones, it feels quite alright. but one major flaw is to access your memory card, you have to remove the battery case. and since it's not exactly a very popular phone, it's not very easy to find accessories for it.

battery life- pretty good actually, i've gone for hours vibing to the music i jammed into it. (i forgot to mention, but i bought a 1gb memory card for about 20 bucks, giving me a lot more room for video clips and music.) and the call time? i don't really notice, but i can assume it's somewhat reasonable.

call quality- i can't really give it that much of a good score. maybe it's just my luck, (or my network) but some calls come out garbled. but if you hang up and call again, you'd get better results

camera- not very good actually. sure it takes 2 megapixel photos, but the quality is not the best sony can offer. (my sister's sony w810i has a much better camera) but at least it comes prepped with some decent photo editing software in it. it can also shoot video. again, not good, but something is always better than nothing. oh yeah, before i forget, it has no flash.

software- i actually like the software for this one. the navigation buttons are customizable to a point that you can for example: press up to activate your bluetooth signal, press left to open your calendar, or press down to start playing video games. the music application is okay, but like i said before, sony has done better in this field before.

internet- unfortunately, i can't rate this because i don't use it.

overall- not a bad phone at all, but i'm sure you can find something better from sony. (like the w810i for example)

hope i helped...

4 out of 5 stars Great Phone but the reminders are not repeated...........2007-11-16

This is a great phone with cool multimedia features. It has a built in FM Radio but you have to use the supplied head set that has a unique adpater, meaning you cant use anything else. I was hoping that I could use this phone to replace my HP PDA but whe the reminders come up they dont repeat themselves so if you dont hear the reminder you will not be notified again. The vibration is not very hard meaning sometimes you cant feel it if it was in your pocket. The coolest thing I found about it was you can record phone call conversation with ease.

3 out of 5 stars decent, but not exceptional.......2007-07-29

I purchased this to replace a RAZR that was having "issues" just after the warranty expired. The Sony is not nearly as pocketable. It also does not get as good of reception as the RAZR but is generally acceptable. What I really don't like is that it doesn't have a dedicated hang up or call buttons. The controls on this phone are very difficult to use and you will need to read the manual even if your a teckie. By the way, the manual is so so; it didn't even mention how to use it with speaker phone! The music feature is stupid; you need proprietary headphones and the sound quality is awful! Still, it does seem to have good battery life and the screen is far superior to Motorola's especially in bright sunlight. Sound volume and call clarity are fine in most cases.

5 out of 5 stars Best phone I've tried.......2007-07-01

My official phone is the T-Mobile Dash, which... blech. I use this unlocked phone with my T-Mobile voice and data plan and couldn't be more pleased, especially now that Sony Ericsson has released PC Suite for Vista. Sound quality is superb, on calls as well as listening to the radio or music files.

Tethering it to my laptop for use as a wireless modem is simple, and data transfer speeds are great.

The Netfront web browser is pretty good (better than that on the W810, which won't load large pages), but I use Opera Mini more. The phone runs other Java apps such as Gmail, Google Maps and Audible flawlessly.

Strangely, the media player even supports Windows Media and Real Audio files (though not streams), which the Walkman phone W810i does not support. I would have thought the Walkman-branded phones would have even better audio support, but no, so I'm not sure what's up with that... The support for 3GP streams is super, though at this time the number of providers of that format is limited (Deutsche Welle and CNN Mobile). Note: although the steaming media player is nominally a RealPlayer, non-3GP RealAudio streams don't work.

5 out of 5 stars Great phone...........2007-06-17

For 235 bucks you wont find a better phone...by the way, the mp3 files sound great...now i dont need to carry my mp3 player, this phone do the job...just buy a bigger card, the 1 GB Memory stick micro works for me..
