This print server has worked without flaw since I installed it. Having to change the IP of one of my computers in order to see the DP-300U on the network was a bit of a pain, but once I did that the configuration was much easier than I had been led to believe by some of the other reviews. A couple things I might advise: 1) Assign an IP address to the DP-300U manually, that way you'll always be able to find it, although I was able to see the unit in my network neighborhood and would have been able to determine the IP address from the units Web Configuration page. It is true, as some other reviewers have noted, that the instructions have the print ports backwards. But if you have a printer connected to one of the parallel ports, and none on the other, the Web configuration page will tell you which port is on line. I print to this server from XP, Vista, and Windows 98 without any problem.

Printing at my house had been a nightmare and usually paired with a few choice expletives. I have a couple of laptops that I use and most of them don't have the old parallel printer port on them anymore which my laser jet uses. So I used to use an old router that had a print server on it. I think it was D-Link 759P (something like that.) Well it had seen better days and I had lots of problems getting it to stay connected to the network. Printing was horribly slow too and eventually, the router stopped working and I had set up an old pc as a printer server. UGH! V-e-r-y S-l-o-w... anyway.... When The DP300U arrived, I followed the instructions and voila! No more swearing! I set it up as a "local" TCP/IP printer and IT worked the first time! I don't dread printing stuff anymore!
MY SETUP:
I have Verizon FIOS with their Motorola wireless modem. The main Laptop I use has Vista on it. I had to change the ip address temporarily to get to the print server, which wasn't a problem. If you follow the instructions completely, it will work. It took me less than 20 minutes from opening the box to printing.
I am able to flawlessly print to this print server from any computer in my network. Currently, I have an HP laser jet 1200 connected to it. I have an old (2003) HP laptop running XP pro, Dell Laptop from work with XP pro, Brand New HP laptop running Vista Ultimate and a really old Sony pc running Windows 2000. NO PROBLEMS PRINTING AT ALL whether wirelessly or connected by cat5 cable. I absolutely LOVE it!
Excellent Print Server, Need to understand networking.......2007-08-29
This print server works great. I had a little bit of a hard time setting it up since I am new to networking. Once I got it set up correctly, have had no failures connecting to it and printing through a Linksys network switch or through a wireless access point connected through the network switch. It has been a great solution rather than buying two printers for my two computers.

Before you buy this, go to D-Link's website and ensure compatibility. If it isn't there, you're buying a dog. This might be a very good print server, but didn't make my Lexmark printer budge.
