Panasonic DVD-RV32K DVD Player (Black)

Product Description

It's a digital world. A world where sound surrounds you and pictures dazzle the imagination. It's a world where the excitement of the movies is captured and brought to life on a simple five-inch disc - the size of a CD. Welcome to the incredible world of DVD. As a leader in digital technology, Panasonic made possible and forever changed the face of home theatre. Panasonic has packed big-screen excitement into the world's smallest and lightest DVD players. Come and experience the ultimate in home theater entertainment. With great features and newly redesigned cosmetics, the DVD-RV32K is an extraordinary value. It includes the popular combination of features known as A-B-C-D - which stands for Advanced Virtual Surround Sound, Bass Plus, Cinema Mode and Dialogue Enhancer - all designed to improve the movie viewing experience. One-touch preset buttons for each of the A-B-C-D features are found on the front panel. The DVD-RV32K's twin laser pickup flawlessly plays through the microscopic disc defects and layer changes that often cause budget players to stumble. The high-resolution audio D/A converter will make your CDs sound great, and the DVD-RV32K also plays CD-Rs, CD-RWs, plus MP3 and WMA files burned to CD-R/RWs.

Amazon.com Product Description

The Panasonic DVD-RV32K DVD player plays DVD-Video, DVD-R, Video CD, CD, CD-R/RW, MP3, and WMA formatted media. It features A, B, C, D functions, which stand for Advanced Surround (V.S.S.), Bass Plus, Cinema Mode, and Dialogue Enhancer, for enhancing the home theater experience. Advanced Surround (V.S.S.) simulates a surround-sound effect using only the front two speakers, so you can enjoy Dolby Digital 5.1 channel discs without an elaborate home theater system. Additionally, the Bass Plus output enables a two-channel setup when you connect an optional subwoofer to your system, so you can get great, realistic home theater sound. Cinema Mode allows clear, bright colors and enhances the color in darker scenes by automatically adjusting picture contrast. The Dialogue Enhancer lets you hear clear dialogue from the center channel over other sound channels. All functions are on the front panel of the DVD player for easy access and control.

The DVD-RV32K also features Optical Digital Output for Dolby Digital (AC3) and DTS external decoder, Variable Zoom Function, Hi-Speed Smooth Scan (up to x200), a Progress Indicator, and Quick Replay, which allows you to jump back 7-10 seconds during playback. It includes S-Video, subwoofer, and video outputs, and comes with a standard remote control.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD player.......2007-12-10

I purchased my DVD player in November of 2002. Five years later it still works great. It plays every type of disc I have ever inserted in it, DVDs, CDs, MP3s. My grandmother had Panasonic TVs that lasted over 20 years. Panasonic is the best electronics brand I know, and my DVD player shows it, they are built to last. It's wonderful!

2 out of 5 stars H07 has struck again.......2007-09-19

I've had mine for at least 3 years and now it's finally dead. I've received the H07 error in the past and the player still worked after I re-inserted the disk but not this time. It was good while it lasted but now I must buy a new dvd player. And it won't be a panasonic.

2 out of 5 stars Possible fix for H07.......2007-05-06

After four years, my RV32 recently gave the dreaded H07 error. This appears to be caused by a sticking spindle motor (the mechanism that spins the disc).

Those handy with a screw driver and spray lubricant may be able to breathe a few more weeks/months/years into the unit. Not for the faint of heart but if you are handy and careful, you may be rewarded:
1. On a good work surface, turn on the unit and hit eject.
2. FOR YOUR SAFETY: Unplug the unit (with tray open)
3. Remove the cover (7 screws: 4 sides, 3 back)
4. Remove the front panel and disc assembly (gently remove two-wired connector, top circuit board, etc. - six screws, two nylon clip posts, plastic clips and connectors on front panel). Be cautious and gentle on this part -- take your time to see how everything comes apart.
5. Spray a synthetic/PTFE lubricant away from the laser assembly towards the spindle motor shaft. This is the metal rod that spins the black circle that then spins the disk. WD40 could also be used, but may gum up more quickly (leading to H07 again). Only a VERY SMALL amount is required.
6. Reassemble unit. With cover completely reinstalled, plug unit in and cross your fingers.

A week after this repair my RV32 is still going strong. In a dusty/dirty environment this motor will likely stick sooner rather than later.

1 out of 5 stars Impending DH07M!.......2007-04-28

Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick....it will get you too! It lurks within. The dreaded H07 (after four years) finally struck my Panasonic down. Based on the dozens of messages below, there is no recourse. Thus, I'm taking a hammer to it this evening -- should be fun! If you own one, it's only a matter of time. If you just bought one -- take it back! Run to the store! Panasonic is laughing at you.

1 out of 5 stars H07 error.......2007-01-14

After only two years of moderate use received the H07 error. (The spindle motor that spins the DVD does not work.) Searched online for fixes and contacted Panasonic. Online fixes didn't work and Panasonic support was awful! Essentially it is boat anchor. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT. And, I would think twice about any/all Panasonic products.

5 out of 5 stars great unit.......2007-12-08

I've had this DVD player for about 5 years and I've had no trouble with it. It was one of the first DVD players to play DVD-Rs. The only reason i stopped using it was because I got an HD TV and needed an upconversion DVD player.

2 out of 5 stars HO7 error.......2007-06-18

Got this as a gift 4 years ago, now I have a piece of junk with an HO7 error (bad motor). It will cost more to fix it than to just buy a new dvd player. My son got an Apex dvd player at the same time 4 years ago and it still works fine.

1 out of 5 stars Another BAD review.......2007-01-08

All we got was three years worth out of this unit. All of a sudden is just locked up, F07 error message, and that's the end of it. We used it maybe twice a week. What a piece! I will never buy another Panasonic appliance.

1 out of 5 stars what a rip-off!.......2006-05-07

I bought this about 1.5 years ago, and from the get-go it would glitch on really bright events onscreen, like explosions. Now, even though I have rarely used it during the time I have owned it, I got the H07 error. This means that the motor has seized, so I have to trash it. Please do not buy this DVD player.

I just wanted to write a review saying mine died as well.

Product Description

Watching DVDs, you can count on seeing a crystal-clear picture on every disc. The DVD-RV32's twin laser pickup flawlessly plays through the microscopic disc defects and layer changes that often cause budget players to stumble. If you're not a fan of wide screen movies, you can use the 4:3 TV Zoom feature to expand a letterbox movie to fill up more of a regular 4:3 TV screen. For full DVD impact, you can connect the player's optical digital output to a compatible Dolby Digital receiver for 5.1-channel surround sound. If you haven't put together a home theater system yet, Panasonic's Advanced Virtual Surround Sound simulates a surround effect, using just a pair of speakers of your TV or stereo system.

4 out of 5 stars Still alive and Kicking.......2006-06-25

My wife has had this DVD player (the black version, but this is not listed) for about 4 years now, and it is still doing fine. If you clean this every 4-6 months. This DVD player has all the standard features(optical audio out, composite out, s video, and standard video). It does not have coax audio out though, and it is right before progressive scan came into existence. This does have very easy to navigate menu features, and the remote set up is pretty agreable as well. The picture and sound are good. What more can I say. Four years, it does not owe my wife or I anything.

2 out of 5 stars Hard to say how this compares to other DVD players in it's class..........2006-01-20

This DVD player has many great features that make it stand out above others- Unfortunately, I have had the same experience that most people have had with this DVD player, the infamous "H07" error code- It ran fine for about a year, and then displayed the error. After doing some research however, I determined the code was related to a faulty spindle motor. I desoldered the motor and tested it, and it seemed to be working fine- I ended up disassembling the spindle motor and cleaning the brushes to get it to work, and although it was not the most pleasant experience, it's worked fine ever since.

I've read from numerous repair shops that this problem (cheap spindle motors) is fairly common in all DVD players in this price range. I imagine most DVD players use the same common motors as well as other internal parts. I suspect the biggest flaw in the Panasonic model(s) are their uncanny ability to detect the smallest problem-problems that truly aren't fatal... (the motor was still working, it just had dirty brushes). It's built-in diagnostics are just too sensitive.

It's just unfortunate that Panasonic won't address the problem- it's pretty apparent that this sensitivity is affecting a large portion of consumers.

1 out of 5 stars Death by H07 .......2005-12-19

H07 - The thing that really frustrates me more than anything else is that I probably spent several hours messing around with the DVD player before I saw all of the posts online. I'll never get that time back ... now, its personal.

I will give Panasonic the benefit of the doubt and try calling that executive office help number for assistance. I suppose every company has a case of bad design every once in a while. I would think that they would do the stand-up thing and fix the problem - right?.

1 out of 5 stars First my Panasonic TV and now my DVD player....Another ho7!!!!!!!!!!! .......2005-12-07

I've had it for almost 3 years and was very happy with it until it died today, but even my old crappy RCA DVD player lasted almost this long.
I would've expected a Panasonic player to last at least 5 years. Nope. Stupid motor is crapping out. Could pay $35 for a new motor on their site but it would most likely die with the same problem. Tried the WD40 fix, but it only worked for 10 minutes before displaying the "HO7" error again. I'll try one more time, then I'll be forced to buy a quality player(meaning not from Panasonic.)
And now my Panasonic TV is having issues with the RCA inputs.
Thanks Panasonic!

1 out of 5 stars don't buy this machine!.......2005-08-06

I've had this machine for less than a year and I received the dreaded H07 error (see reviews below). I've had cheap knock-off machines last much longer than this one. I'm surprised this is from Panasonic. My impression of them is definitely tarnished. I will not buy another consumer-grade Panasonic appliance again.
