The deck features a progressive-scan video processor that doubles the scan lines of an interlaced signal (from 480i to 480p) by scanning all 525 lines in 1/60 of a second for each pass. DVD-Audio offers super high-fidelity (192 kHz/24-bit) sound. Because the DVD-Audio signal is too high-resolution for the digital-to-analog converters in current surround receivers (and also as an anti-piracy measure), the DVD-S55S performs its own decoding of DVD-Audio signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, audio to a surround receiver for these special discs. But you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs to appreciate this feature.
The DVD-S55S also boasts audio features like Dialogue Enhancer (which boosts the volume of the center channel during Dolby Digital 5.1-channel presentations), and an optical digital-audio output for channeling DTS and Dolby Digital surround sound to a surround-decoding audio/video receiver (in case you aren't using the player's onboard decoder).

RUNS PERFECT EVEN AFTER THREE YEARS!.......2006-10-10
I noticed some people had problems with error messages, etc. etc. etc. I can honestly say this dvd player has worked PERFECTLY since day one, and is still running strong. It has played HUNDREDS of movies and never once a problem on reading discs. I will upgrade to the S52K (upconverting model) next, and use this one as a backup until it dies!

After 15 months of use the player no longer plays DVDs. It simply displays an error "H02" Many others have experienced the same problem and it costs roughly $100 to repair.

Aside from lack of shuffle and the DVD logo pointlessly being on the screen my default when CDs were played (forcing me to hit "Audio Only" quite often), this was a great DVD player.
However, as has been the case with other customers, my player simply stopped reading all discs (error code H02) after about fifteen months.
Too bad Panasonic decided to issue a "disposable" product like this!

Ok, some people have had complaints about this product not performing, but I can seriously say that this is one of the best players on the market. Why, you ask? It has a function that no other player in it's price range has: position memory. Say you don't want to finish a dvd, just hit the button on the remote to save your spot. You can put in any other dvd you want, but when you put the disc with the saved spot, it recognizes the exact location where you previously had stopped including all the settings (dts, subtitles, etc). It plays smoothly, has great slow mo and fast forward, the remote is sturdy, and it has surround sound options when you use headphones through a receiver. I've had other players in the past, including Sony, and this one blows them all out of the water.
great DVD player while it lasted.......2004-06-21
I purchased this DVD player to replace my top of the line (at that time Novb 2001) Sonyu DVD-0S570D which refused to play DVD+r disc and about %50 of my dvd collection. The Panasonic worked great for 14 months . 2 months past its warrenty. At 15 months it gave up the ghost and refused to play any dics at all. While it worked great , I have to give it low props for lasting 2 months past warrenty. My fisher VCR from 1990 still works ! !4yrs old ! This item was replaced by a Sony DVP-665ncp which is now a month old and working great with a 2 yr warrenty from best buy, I'd swore I'd never buy a Sony again as they let me down 3 times in the past decade .

The MicroSD card is just a MicroSD card, but the USB adapter is the smallest I've ever seen. This is a sweet package. It also comes with a little rubber "sheath" to optionally hold the adapter and/or MicroSD card, and that can clip onto a keychain etc.

I bought OfficeConnect for my small business and was truely amazed at this hub's awesome performance. Its capable of a fast connectivity solution of 10/100. The installation was so simple. With this piece of hardware I now have a office with 6 computers fully networked (file shareing and all) and I'm thinking about purchasing another. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone who is serious about networking a small office.
