I order this item for my son's birthday..and it appeared after ordering that it would not have arrived until after..however it arrive right on time the day of his birthday..and the product was great no problems with it..and my son love it. go amazon..wish I knew how to use all the discount coupons awarded to us at the same time..but it was great.

Not Bad, Not Perfect.......2007-12-26

I purchased my mini pal about 8 months ago. Overall I have been satisfied with it. It looks good, quiet enough and faster than my mac mini's internal hd. I was able to partition the drive into two. One partition is bootable with os 10.4. The other is used for backup/extra storage.

Negatives would be it has a somewhat annoying blue/red light which really doesn't need to be that large. All ports are in the back. I would prefer to have a couple on the side (at least the power switch). The packaged backup software did not work for me. I've been using a 3rd party software on my os 10.4(Tiger). And now since upgrading to 10.5(Leopard), Time Machine works with it as my backup.

I would buy another when it comes time to.

Not Compatible With Airport Extreme USB Port.......2007-10-08

UPDATE: I purchased a second drive and got the same exact results - the drive will not mount using the USB connection - it will only mount using the fire wire port. So, I called Acomdata Tech Support and they confirmed that the drive will ONLY mount using the fire wire port and not the USB port. Therefore, this device cannot be used as a network external drive connected to an Apple Airport Extreme wireless base station. If you are looking at this drive thinking that it is a perfect match for the Airport Extreme, don't bother - it won't work.

This hard drive is a great design and I was really looking forward to using it with my Airport Extreme wireless router as a network drive. However, the USB port on the back of the router appears to be DOA. When connecting to either the router or my computer using the USB port there was no connection and the drive would not mount. I was able to connect using the fire wire port, however, the Airport Extreme wireless router is USB only. Therefore, mine has to go back. Now I'm not sure if I just got a bad one or if I should be wary of this product. I don't think I've ever purchased an electronic item that had a defective port like this one. I think I'll try again anyway and will report back if I have any other issues.

Terrible misleading packaging.......2007-10-05

This product does what it advertises except that you NEED to know it is not a USB hard drive - the package text reads "hard drive+usb2.0 hub & firewire hub" which implied it was a usb hard drive. The package is also very generic, the only way to tell hard drive size is from a sticker on it which was very unclear. The manual doesn't mention the limitation with the firewire drive until the FAQ section - it is towards the back, after a bunch of information about retrospect.

Acomdata Mini Hub.......2007-05-06

I purchased this a few months ago. The space is excellent. The styling is fine. I have noticed that the hub/drive tends to get warm when the Mac mini was sitting on top of the Acomdata drive. The other negative that I have experienced is that when I moved the hub so it was on top, then the Airport wireless connection seemed to be somewhat impeded. I love having the extra ports, 4 USB and 2 Firewire. As another reviewer mentioned, a good backup software is important.

I've used this for a while now and I love the fact that it is styled to match my Mac Mini. I had high hopes for the backup software but it didn't work for me. I use a freeware backup program now instead. When it runs full speed it makes just a little bit of noise and when it isn't in use it makes no noise and stays cool. I recommend it, but get yourself a decent backup software.

OK, I guess........2007-05-07

Apparently there is more than one version of PCMCIA; I have version 1 and this unit is for version 2 and won't work on my machine. I sent back the first shipment and they sent me another one about 2 weeks later. That is when I found out about the versions. Apparently I can't just return it; only exchange it.

Excellent value for the money.......2005-08-03

Brand new for $49 shipped, it is impossible to fault this lens for the absolute best bargain KA-mount MF lens. I bought it to use as a short telephoto with my Pentax *ist DS. At 80mm equivalent focal length, it is ideal for portraiture. I already have an SMCP-M 50mm f/1.4, which does work on the DS, albeit only in Manual mode and requires pushing the AE-L to take a exposure meter reading. I wanted an SMCP-A version for outdoor full-length portraits, where auto-exposure would be very helpful. I went with MF because I prefer the metal construction to the all-plastic AF versions. Besides, I like the ability to focus precisely on the model's eyes/nose that MF allows me.

In many ways, this lens is also a good alternative to buying the Pentax 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens. It isn't much longer dimensionally and is a full stop faster. When mounted on a DSLR, the 40mm pancake lens becomes an odd 64mm equivalent - too short for portraiture and too long to be considered "normal" lens.

Kudos to Pentax for still producing the SMCP-A 50mm f/2.
